I like to think I'm an honest person.  If I find something valuable, I turn it in to the lost and found immediately.  It boils my blood when I see people ripping others off and in the last 24 hours I was the one being ripped off.

My dad and sister came into town last night to watch our city's fireworks show with my Fiance and me.  My sister is taking an online class and ended up staying in my apartment to finish her week's homework.  Anyways, my Dad, fiance and I set up our lawn chairs down by the river as we expected the Fireworks to be shot off there.  We sat there for an hour and nothing happened, a little after 10 pm our city's fireworks went off behind us so everyone made a mad dash to move their set ups closer to the fireworks.  Between the mad dash, I had my cell phone on my lap with my purse.  I somehow dropped it between then and the end of the show b/c I don't remember having it at the end of the show.  I had it out to contact my sister to tell her the fireworks had not started yet (before 10).

Anyways, my sister calls my Fiance's phone around noon letting me know she had my car keys (I had loaned them to her in case of an emergency and she forgot to leave them with me before they left the night prior) and to also let me know that she called my phone several times, someone answered and she heard a bunch of people in the background laughing.  I didn't notice my phone was missing before then (I'm not nearly attached to my phone as most) and I assumed it was in the bottom of my purse as usual.  I immediately realized after she called that someone had taken my phone.  Boy was I pissed!  Instead of dropping it off at the park's department where we were last night, the jerks pocketed my phone.

So I got online, disabled my service, and went out to buy a new one.  After I activated my phone, I looked up my phone's account history.  Apparently these jerks called several numbers.  A google search said one was a McDonald's and the other was the Florida Dept of Children and Family Services to check their balance on their welfare card.  They also called some other numbers that a google search wouldn't let me know who they were.  Later this evening I get a call from Florida and I pick up.  The female on the other line said "Tiffany?" and I say, "No, this is not your friend, Tiffany.  She stole my phone last night, so I disabled my service on it and I'd appreciate if you wouldn't call me again!"  They had the nerve to pass my phone number around like I wouldn't disable service.

I'm just so annoyed.  Buying a new phone is not cheap, thankfully getting a replacement wasn't more than $100 but still!  I hate when thieves get the best of me!

OMG!  I just got an email (my email was in my phone) of a picture of me in my wedding dress!  I had taken a picture of me in my dress last week and sent to my best friend.  Now I know the phone number of my old phone.  Jerks.

I'm going to.  I'm going to print off the email, my account history, and give them them all this information.  I hope they get caught!

@beekiss: I am like you, I turn in wallets, cell phones, electronic devices, go back in the store if I am not rung up for an item.

Just remember   REMEMBER we are out there (good people)

"evil never takes a day off than why should the good"- movie quote

In our next life we will be rewarded based on our good deeds.

@beatriz:  I agree!  I recently followed a man all over my city until he pulled over because he had keys stuck on his trunk, and I was worried they'd fall off.  Luckily they didn't, and he didn't think I was a crazy for following him!

I hope the police do something about it!  That's just terrible!

Yeah, I went through and changed all my passwords.  I had opera mini on my cell phone and sadly, one of my quick bookmarks was Weddingbee.  Ugh, I feel slightly violated.  :(

    Thanks for all the support!

@beekiss: Call that Florida number (the welfare #) and ask for "Tiffany's" full name, then Google that name, hand that info. over to the police and get your phone back. ;)

@Cornflakegirl: Good call, but I doubt the welfare agency will give her the information b/c she is not "Tiffany."

Call the police and report "Tiffany"'s ass. Explain it just like you explained it here that she got into your email and is now sending out pictures of you. I am not 100% sure, but there is a crime here, one potentially way bigger than the theft of the phone.

chances are NOTHING will happen with this...

I had a purse stolen, had a check book in it...  they wrote checks all over the place, including like 75 dollars a day to pizza hut, and hungry howies.  We called these pizza places, they were of NO HELP! None!

this happneed about hrmmm  13 years ago, and i STILL can't write checks to certain places (not that I want to)  but the police were of no helpl, we called htem and they were of no help either...  just blowing it off, its not on a list of priorities.  UNFORTUNATELY....

But I did lose my phone a few weeks ago hiking out of town.  HAD tons of pictures on it!  those were the ONLY thing i regretted losing.  Came to terms with the fact that my phone was lost... BUT then...  I get a phone call.. well, my friend did.  A person found my phone, in the woods.  I went back and got my phone.  We happened to be geocaching actually (google it, its like a treasure hunt) and the next geocache we found had a brown fish with a saying "do unto others as you would have them do unto you"... the golden rule...

    pretty amazing really.

I just hate people.  I am sorry this happened to you and you have a right to feel violated.

@Rubies: True. It's worth a shot, though. I'd be tempted to call as Tiffany asking if they would verify the spelling of my last name citing a paperwork error. Muahahaha...

Also if no one has realized it but they can be traced!!U have the number right?Have it traced!!The cell phone companies are able to do it!!

The cops should be able to get a supaena or whatever its called and then the cell phone company should trace it and then tell the cops where the phone is,and where the person who has the phone.

Oh and keep pushing the cops.Dont tell them the info and then let it go.Keep calling every week.Make them keep u and your cell phone on their minds.

    Let us know what happens!

P.S.I heard of a man whose laptop was stolen. The man knew of technology that he was able to take pics of the man who stole his computer while he used his computer, sleeping, etc!!The man got enough evidence to have the cops bust the guy!Wish we could do this with cell phones.

But definately mention to the cops about having it traced. If they traced it,it would be solved in a day or 2.

Children and Family services won't be able to give you any information b/c of HIPPA privacy laws. I'd call the police.

That sucks. I can't believe they are sending you your own pictures. I'd feel violated, too.

Question, Did you have your phone locked?  I mean.. mine automatically locks after two minutes.  I'm sure someone could figure it out with time, but it wouldn't be easy for them.

@Earlybride: There's actually GPS software on phones that you can remotely activate via a text message. It will send the coordinates of the cell phone back in a text message. I used to have it enabled on my phone, but no longer do. If someone wants to steal my 2.5 year old smartphone then it would give me a reason to actually decide on a new phone. It's been 6 months and I still can't figure out which phone I want, and new ones keep coming out!

@Oneeleven:  It auto-locks but I didn't put a passcode on it, you just slide the cursor across and it unlocks.  After work today, I'm going to the police to drop off all the information I have.

I had my first experience recently with someone stealing something of mine. I have a really old car, 14 years old in fact, and starting this winter the locks started sticking in the cold and I was afraid they would break if I forced them, so I stopped locking my car. No big, I don't keep much in there any way. Well I just noticed recently that the only things of "value" I keep in my car got stolen! My bluetooth (worth ~$30) and a double cigarette lighter adapter that is handy (~$15). At first I just thought I misplaced the bluetooth since I noticed that first, but when I noticed the other thing too I realized there is no freaking way that I misplaced that, it never leaves my car (not like I could use it inside!).

So I am just irritated. Yes, my car was unlocked, but I live in a very safe (i.e. "suburb" in middle of nowhere) area and hardly drive anywhere other than work (an Ivy league campus...not exactly rampant with thieves) and occasionally Walmart or Target. But someone took the trouble to go into my crappy car and go through it enough to find this stuff in the center console (it was not out in the open).

Oh, and there were smart enough to not take the EZ Pass, so makes me think it was not a teenager or uneducated person either since they knew enough that I could track them and identify them with the EZ Pass. Boo.
