@sara_tiara: I totally feel you! My name is Clara and it's clearly in my signature but somehow I still get people calling me Carla or Claire... hmm really?!?! So ya I totally get you!
My last name is a first name. Say my name is Lisa Kelly. I'll send an email and sign it "Lisa," and the response comes back, "Hi Kelly, blahblah"
DRIVES ME INSANE.
It used to bother me, but I have gotten used to it. I'm a Megan and I get Meghan, Meagan, Meggan, etc. It's pretty inevitable, IMO.
Gotta love it when it's simply because the person can't be bothered to pay attention though. lol
Oh my gosh, I hate this! My name is Abbie...and FI's grandmother has spelt it Abbey since the day I met her, his aunt says Abby... Even when I sign cards/emails with it correctly, it's still ALWAYS wrong! I know there are multiple ways to spell it, but yeeesh pay attention!
@Overthemoon - my friend gets this ALL the time. His name is Paul, and his last name starts with Hil-. So somehow, at least once a week, he gets called Phil in emails. Messages signed "Thanks, Paul" come back as "Great, thanks Phil!"
I completely agree: super annoying. This doesn't happen to me because my name is so long people have to check before they hit send. What usually happens though is that people refuse to read my last name outloud. I've had professors literally go TLDNR durring role call! It bothers me soo much cause my name isn't complicated... it just has a lot of letters... they're just being lazy >:(
I get people giving me nicknames all the time.
My name is Katherine (and sometimes Kat).
People who have never met me will send e-mails to:
Kate
Katie
Kath
Kathy
etc
It is annoying, but what are you going to do?
Most of the time I don't care, and if my email address was something like "s.smith@blahblah.com' or whatever, then fine....but it's 'sara.smith@blahblah.com' , so you had to type it in the "to" field! COME ON PEOPLE.
Ok, NOW end rant.
One of my work bosses STILL spells my name with an "H"! You would think after a few months of working in the cubicle next to me he would know how to spell it! As a fellow Sara(no H) I feel your pain!
@Potatoes: The "h" isn't even necessary anyway, lol.
I hear you. Most people spell my name just fine. Every once in a while someone at Starbucks will get all creative and spell my name Jenniffer or Jennipher. Um, no...it's just Jennifer. Like millions of other Jennifers out there. My parents did not get all fancy with the spelling of my name, ok?
I know this feeling!!!! My name is Ann, and sooooo many people spell is AnnE, or AnnIE or AnnA! My name is ANN, not any of those other ones. The worst is when they do it in an email reply, where my name is clearly stated in the e-mail I sent them.
Lol, I hate this too, my full name is in my email address. I was getting a quote from a plumber, he wrote down my email address to email me a quote. The email got to me, so he spelt it properly, but the first line was Dear Miss XXX XXX spelt wrong! It's not like he has an email I had sent to reply to, so that was even more stupid.
I hate that too! My name is Kelly. KellY...not Kelley, not Kellie, not Kelli...no, the originial KELLY!! My last name is Crossley...not Crosby, nor Cosby. Look and get it right. Also, if I'm working with your child, please know what my name is...don't just call me "the speech teacher". I am a speech therapist, not the "speech teacher" and get my name right!
I'm with ya, girl!
I agree!! My name is pretty basic...Katie...but people still spell it SO wrong! Like Caty or Catee or something like that. I'm pretty sure KATIE is the most common way to spell it, so please use that!
See, I am SaraH and EVERYONE spells it Sara. Drives me crazy too. In my nursing school, someone spelled it wrong a year and a half ago and STILL the profs spell it wrong. I mean come on, its the traditional way to spell it!!
My maiden name was somewhat common, there was a famous guy with it but spelled a different way and so frequently BOTH my names are mispelled. And now my last name is also a first name so it confuses people.
@sara_tiara: my niece spells her name sarrah. i'm sure it's misspelled wrong all of the time.
i would get my name spelled wrong all the time too. in fact, in grade 9 there were 5 of us in the same class but spelt 4 different ways. my last name is misspelled 50% of the time too. i just got used to it.
I can't relate to the spelling thing but people SAY my name wrong often. My name is Jessica. Simple, right? There are only 3 syllables in my name. It's so easy! So it pisses me off when people call me "Jess-ca." There is an "i" in there!!!!! It happens all the time too. I want to scream "Are you really so lazy that you can't say JessIca?!?!" Ugh.
Yup, the same thing happens to me too! And I'm so used to it at this point that I just don't care anymore. My name is ShellEY and I guess it's more common just ShellY. But it is annoying when I've gotten awards or something and the name is spelled wrong and I can't do anything about it but feel dumb displaying the award with a mispelled name. Blah! You'd think people would check first!
@sara_tiara: Yeah, that is super annoying. My first name ends in a "Y" and even though it's in my email address and signature, people still spell it -ey, -ie, or -i. And I have the traditional spelling!
Oh god, I get everything:
Kirsten, Kristin, Christin, Christine, Kristine, Krista, Kiersten, ugh.
For a while I seriously considered changing my name, like Christina Aguilera did when she went by Xtina. Mine's easier because I'd be X10.
So... X10 it is. Thanks.
My name is Ashley... yet people want to spell it Ashleigh - which a very unique spelling! Where do they get that from?!?
my name is Brianne, I get Breanne, Brianna, Breanna, Briane, Breane, Brieanne, Brieanna.... as well as Rhianne, Leanne or any other variation of _____anne or _____anna. Yeah now that is annoying. My last name also gets butchered.
I have a very unusual name that most people spell incorrectly. At this point (42 yrs) I'm used to it. I'm more surprised when people get it right.
@Genuine513: LOL mines Briana and I get these allllllllll the time!
I've ben at my job for over 2 years and my boss STILL can't spell my name. It's really irritating.
I get annoyed with that too. I mean my spelling is odd (Lyndsey) but when you see it in my e-mail signature and then I get "Lindsay" in the reply, it irks me.
Dont worry, I feel your pain. My name is Clare. EVERYONE spells it wrong. Of course they put the "i" in it. I got a bridal shower invitation to DHs cousin's shower and it was spelled wrong. You are friends with me on Facebook, you can't at least take the time to look it up!
I am one of a billion Jennifers and people still don't seem to know how to spell it. "One n? Two Fs?" Who the hell spells it Jeniffer, honestly.
Most of the time I go by Jen and apparently even that is too challenging for most to grasp. THERE'S ONLY ONE N AS YOU CAN PLAINLY SEE. I do not use two Ns. My name is not pronounced Jennnnnnnnnnnn. *grumble*
I hadn't realized I was so bitchy passionate about this issue, haha.
@sara_tiara: hahahha sameee here, what's even better is my cousins who write on my facebook wall with the wrong name....
@zippylef: I know exactly what you mean! People used to mispronounce my name in school. There was me - Megan, and another girl, Meagan. People would always mix up the spelling/pronunciation of our names.
arg. I hate that too. My name is Rachel... not Rachael, or Rachelle. Oh, and my nickname is Rae, NOT Ray (to me, that's for a boy). And I hate "rache" FMIL calls me that, and I sometimes wonder if she just forgot the "l"
When I have to spell out my name to someone, I always make sure to say:
"r-a-c-h-E-l" because more often than not, they add the "a"
I mean, sometimes I feel bad for getting upset with someone who I don't know spelling my name wrong, because come on they don't know you. But my UNCLE has spelled my name wrong continuously.
I have a common name with a different spelling and it's constantly been spelled (and sometimes pronounced) wrong.
The email thing really bugs me too.
My name is a variant of Carrie (which has about ten million spellings) with only one R. Even when I tell them which spelling I have, almost everyone adds an extra R to my name. My MIL included. You'd think the fact that I married her son would be incentive enough for her to get it right, lol.
DH was actually the first person I met who wrote my name right on the first try without me spelling it out for him. I always joke that that's how I knew he was the one.
@sailor: This irks me so much! Its like, I JUST sent you an e-mail with my name in it...yet you still called me the wrong person...ugh!!!
No one can figure out how to spell or pronounce my last name, it seems, even though it's a fairly common name and is spelled phonetically.
To illustrate, let's pretend my last name is Wiggins.
What the boss thinks it is: Wizzens
What the MIL thinks: Wiggings
What the SIL thinks: Wilkins
And so on.
BUGS the heck out of me! Take the time to learn my name. I learned yours!
Ah, you ladies made me feel (slightly) less crazy, I thought I was just having a PMS attack (maybe still am, lol).
@stillme: Wizzens made me laugh way too hard....I am immature.

....when people misspell my name! Ok, I get it: a lot of Saras spell it SaraH. But I don't. And if you are emailing me at work, where my full first name is IN THE EMAIL ADDRESS, can you not take a split second to make sure you are spelling it right?! I must get 10 emails a day with my name spelt wrong....maybe I'm just cranky, but it is REALLY irritating me today.
annnnd END RANT.
