I’ve always loved big dogs, but I’m not talking your average big dog… I want a GIANT dog. 🙂 I’m in love with Great Danes and I can’t wait to have one (I think I convinced Fiance to get one as our next dog.) As much as I love my (fur)baby boy, he’s just not very big… And I just laugh when people come over and say “Oh my he’s so BIG!”… He’s only 55lbs! Apparently my judgment is skewed. 😉
So ladies lets show our extra large pups (or dream pups) some love!
Here’s my “little” boy:
And my dream dogs (if I could get two I would!):

I have a Bernese Mountain dog. At his full weight he’s about 135 lbs. Unfortunately giant breeds do have shorter lifespans.

@Mrs. DG: I was just going to say that.

@o0olibelulao0o: Did you take that picture of your dog, he’s almost posing for it. I love the picture of the Dane sat down on the left, how cute?!
Here are our 2 ridgebacks.

I love Great Danes, especially the Harlequins! Beautiful!
One thing to keep in mind: The bigger the dog the shorter the lifespan. 🙁
The dog that always amazes me at the sheer size is the Irish Wolfhound; those things are like small horses!

Giant dogs usually have such sweet personalities. We went to the bark park last weekend and there was a HUGE mastiff, I’d guess at least 200#. It was so funny to watch my little Boston Terrier try to tell him who’s boss. I have a little dog, but he THINKS he’s a big dog.

@missrobots: I had a Welsh growing up and he was the exact same way 🙂 “What do you mean, I’m only 23 lbs??”
Big dogs are so fun to cuddle!!! A friend has a Bernese puppy, she has SUCH big paws. 🙂 Did anyone see the Dog Show? The Scottish deerhound who won was pretty big too!

My father in law has a St. Bernard. She is 140lbs and such a sweetie.
This is when she was bit younger and not at full weight yet
This is Callie with my 4 mos old black lap pup maverick

I am such a sucker for big dogs! Here’s my Rusty, a 90 lb Ridgeback/Lab mix. It’s been a year but I still miss him terribly. 🙁
Lil Fella, the baby Toy Fox Terrier, bullied him constantly. Fortunately, all Rusty had to do was get on the couch or go up stairs to escape him.

@caitlanc: OMG – the size difference between them is crazy!
Darling Husband would love to get a big dog when we have a house and have the space. He’d like a great dane and I think ridgebacks are beautiful too!

AW. I love Ridgebacks!!! I swear our dog even though the SPCA called her a Pitbull Mix has some Ridgeback in her! Where did you get yours??
Our pup is 62lbs, she’ a good medium size.
I don’t think I could handle a big dog like a Great Dane but I’m def a medium to big size dog person. Not a fan of toy breeds.

I love my Newfoundland! Fiance and I want to rescue large dogs, I love the big guys!

@abbyful: didn’t an irish wolfhound win this year? They are soo cool but WAY too big for me. All I can think of is the landmine sized poop

@panterapeach: Close. Like @MsJeep23: said, I think it was the Scottish Deerhound.

Awww, love this thread. My big boy, Dino, was THE BEST dog ever. He was a 140-pound bullmastiff. We had to put him down two years ago last May – he was only 4 years old.
