    So Im dying inside seriously....

my husband bought me a brand new ipod nano last week for christmas.

last night we went to work out and on the way home i stuck my ipod into my

pants and then THREW THE PANTS IN THE WASH! Well I was looking for my ipod

and it dawned on me 0-0 <--- my face. The ipod had only been in there for maybe 1 -2 minutes.

When I pulled it out on the screen there was an error message with an option to restart.

my husband told me not to touch it to shake out the water and to let it dry.

Has anyone ever done this and had their ipod make it? Was the error message a GOOD thing comopared to a just blank ipod?

I looked at the ipod and it has no water residue in the screen or cameria. you cant even tell it went through the wash.

    ALSO

If it DOESNT work. since its only been a week do you think it would work to walk in and play stupid and say, "I was just listening to my music while running and it just freaked out!!" Do you think they would replace it???

    HELP!!

ATTENTION!   I DID THIS! EXCEPT I WASHED IT TWICE!  MINE IS A SHUFFLE, AND I WASHED IT, THOUGHT IT WAS A GONER BUT IT WASN'T. LET IT DRY OUT COMPLETELY, DON'T MESS WITH IT OR TURN IT ON THOUGH. ONCE IT DRIES, IT SHOULD BE FINE.

    HOPE IT WORKS FOR YOU!

Agree - let it dry out.  I had a phone that someone dropped a drink on, and the picture was black for a day or two, but it came alive again.

@ Osaka - I hope it works for you. It's worth a shot at least. Don't completely panic yet!

If you have any packets of descant (you know, that you get with shoes sometimes), but it with the ipod.  Whatever you do, don't turn it on for a few days.

Yep, Dropped my iPhone in a sink full of water.  My friend washed her iPhone too.  Put it face down on a towel and do not turn it on!  Give it a day or so and it should work again once it drains and dries... Apple products tend to be pretty tough!

Put it in a container of rice and leave it for a couple of days!!! My FI has washed his Ipod, dropped his cellphone down a manhole, in a cooler full of water, and in soup, and rice is always a foolproof method of drying them out!

I dropped my iPhone in the loo about a week ago - totally by accident. Yes, the loo. Apple don't cover water damage but I was told that there's a flat fee for liquid damage that's quite a lot cheaper than getting a new iPhone! Dry it out, see if it works. If it does, great! If it doesn't then I'd still book an appointment with the Genius Bar and see if they can do anything.

These are some great methods to dry out any cellphone ipod etc. that has gotten stuck in water or a wash cycle in the machine!

Before you even dry it out though it is reccomended that you wash it in distilled/deionized water BECAUSE tap water & salt water all have ions in them that can cause a short when the item is turned back on.

    • a ziplock bag of uncooked rice and let it sit for a few hours
    • a bag with some silica packets
    • a hearing aid dryer for a few hours
    • Place it in an oven with just the oven light on for a few days
    • A bag of clay-based absorbent

It sucks but one of these will hopefully work!

Sorry this happened to you :( I have so been there! You can also try the oven to dry your ipod out as a very last-ditch effort sort of thing if you can't get anywhere with Apple. I know this sounds scary, but I washed my phone about a year ago and my very tech-savvy grandpa told me to TAKE THE BATTERY OUT (most important thing!) put the oven on around 100, put a towel on a baking sheet and dry the phone on that for 4 hours or so, checking on it every 20-30 mins to make sure you're not baking it...it worked for me and apparently a bunch of guys who my grandpa used to work with at MIT. It's scary though, especially prying open the ipod to get the battery out, but if you have nothing to lose, it's worth a try. Good lucK!!

Couple of years ago, I was at the airport headed home from Christmas at my parents.  I stuck a bottle of water, which happened to be not tightly sealed, in my purse.  My ipod nano went for a swim and unfortunately never played another song, despite some great efforts to revive it.  I hope yours turns out better.

Try rice - see the article here: http://lifehacker.com/5435480/testimonial-rice-resurrects-even-the-most-soaked-of-gadgets

I haven't tried this personally, but apparently it works!

I washed my stepson's Ipod and after drying it out, it works perfectly (he didn't even know I washed it).  I agree, I think they have a warranty though so if it doesn't work, they may be able to replace it.

I hope the nano lives!  I've heard that you can try drying it with a wet vac but I've never did this.  My friends have all used hair dryers to dry their phones that were dropped in sinks or whatever.

I've heard of the rice thing working, so try that, BUT, there is a store in my town that does small electronics repairs for stuff like that. They're sign says they do water damage repairs. I found them after calling Radio Shack for something. Call a local electronics seller and ask them if they know of anyone who does repairs like this.

I'm sure you feel mostly pissed at yourself that it happened. I know the feeling!!! It'll work out!

I'm so glad they replaced it for you.  From everything I've heard, the Apple Store has pretty great customer service.  Now, just don't wash it again! ;)

There's probably something on there like there is in your phone that changes color when it gets wet so they know there's water damage. Awesome that the guy did that for you!
