@SpecialSundae:  If I were you, I would go visit my dad just because you never know how long your parents are going to be around for. And also, who knows if your dad’s drunken friends would be hanging around? He probably wouldn’t want them to so he could spend time with you. You could end up having a lovely time even though you’ve never wanted to visit.

If you decide not to go, I wouldn’t make up an excuse. I hate leaving the chance to get caught in lies. That would probably hurt his feelings even more if he found out later you had lied…

That’s just my opinion! 🙂

Only you can decide which one is a priority to you. I know for myself, I would choose seeing my dad; but from the sound of it, you don’t seem to like being around him much.

I think you need to pick the one you will regret not doing the most, not the one you want the most. Also, about the flight cost excuse, I know if I was your father and found out that you had choose a vacation instead of seeing me, I would be hurt. I would get over it, and want you to have fun, but it would sting.

You’re not a horrible daughter. Everybody likes their vacations. HNo fault in that. t’s really up to you. If you want to take a vacation then do it. Go where you want. BUt if you want to maintain good relationships with your family – go see your dad. You wouldn’t go to Ibiza because it’s somewhere you want to go, but because you want to see your dad. If he’s there long term then it’s something you two will have to work out, one way or another, if you’re going to maintain the relationship. I mean, I don’t think many people would choose to visit Kansas, but if that’s where your family is, you go. And go on vacation another time. You’ve got to have more than one holiday weekend in a year!

Go see your dad! Maybe spend a few days there with him and as a compromise, you can all take a short weekend away to someplace near him that is a little more your speed. That way you get the vacation you want and to see your dad.

Perhaps you could fly out to see him for a couple of days and then take a boat to another island or something for the rest of your holiday?  Maybe there would be somewhere nearby you’d like to visit and would have the bonus of a direct return flight?

Putting aside the “do you actually want to spend your holiday with your father” stuff, parts of Ibiza can be beautiful and relaxing. I went with my family (quite a few years ago, but when it really was THE only clubbing island) and we stayed in a lovely villa with a pool, ate in local restaurants and enjoyed the culture. The only place I encountered the clubbers was in the airport.

My friends are there on their honeymoon right now so it can’t all be that bad, right?

Oh my gosh, Ibiza is beautiful. There is a really relaxing laid back vibe to the place that you can not find anywhere else in the world. You can go to Ibiza and be completely detached from the clubbing scene. It is also really romantic with amazing restaurants, secluded coves and sailing trips. I have travelled all over the world and I would still argue that the sunset in Ibiza is one of the most beautiful. Go to Ibiza, stay in your own place and meet for lunch/dinner every day. A nice compromise. Every year we go back to the same place and this is a 2 minute walk away!!

Enjoy!
