I’ve met people who have a serious problem with names– almost like a name-specific dyslexia! But that would be an excuse for maybe one person in your work life, not multiple!

I get it all the time, and I’ve been here nearly 4 years.  My name, obviously, is Abbie.  I get Abby all the time, even when I’ve recently sent them emails signed with the correct spelling.

Oh well.

I know people, myself included who get this all the time…sometimes even coming from family members!

My last name ends with “-er” it’s often spelled “-ar”

Know a lot of guys who are Erik, Eric, Erich and Erick…who all seem to get the wrong version of their name most of the time.

The same thing happens to my co-worker, but not at work.  It happens outside work.  Her name is Simone and people call her every name in the world, but that.  It is so frustrating for her.  I dont blame you if this gets to you!

@ebarnes0:  A whole new name for you? That’s crazy. I’d be very annoyed. I’ve had classmates and coworkers who have names pronounced nothing like they’re spelled and I always make an effort to learn the correct pronunciation. Plus if it’s a short name like you said yours is five letters…I’d learn to spell it too.

I also had a coworker who would get very angry that people would not learn her last name correctly…it was Chern, but because she was Asian people would look at it and say Chen. Basically leaving out the “r”…she felt it was very disrespectful/racist of people to do to her.

@ebarnes0:  mine’s the same, people take liberties and shorten mine all the time.

My boss just brought an email to me, the guy’s name is Leigh, pretty easy right?  Nope, boss kept saying Leath – are you kidding me?

lol i HATE that! My name is only 5 letters long but people constantly put an “E” in it! What makes matters worse is that, at work, my name is in the signature!!!

Just reference the signature!!

Sheesh!

This happens to me all the time.  Within our company, you have to look up people by name to email them – so my name is RIGHT THERE.  It’s also in my sig block too.  It makes no sense that they continue to misspell it.
