@peachacid:  That article blew my mind as well.  We pay two to three times what others pay and we get so much less back.

@peachacid:  I wanna move to Switzerland!

ETA: is that what people spend per YEAR or total? I have spent well over $5,000 on health care and I am Canadian.

@MrsPanda99:  It’s the average spent by the government per person on healthcare.  So here in the States the government spends over $8000 per person and a large percentage of us aren’t even covered by any medical insurance so the coverage that we are all paying for is for young children, the elderly, and the disabled.  Other countries, like the UK and Canada, spend less and cover all citizens.

@beachbride1216:  I pay for a lot of stuff myself though, plus our taxes are higher and we have a health premium once we reach a certain income bracket. Anything I actually need is not covered but I sure am spending a lot on other people’s care.

I wish it was optional and I wish I could opt into a private system like the US. I hate Canada. I want to move.

@MrsPanda99:  Personally I’m not a fan of the Canadian system.  I much prefer the UK system where you can opt to pay for private insurance to supplement the basic national plan.  The real problem here in the US is that enough people have private insurance that it has driven up the cost of healthcare where a majority of people without insurance cannot afford to pay for even basic healthcare.  We’re only guaranteed emergency care and you still have to pay astronomically for it due to the infflated costs.
