UGH. I TOTALLLLLLLLY UNDERSTAND!!! I love my iBook - but a few weeks ago it kept shutting down on me and I realized that my battery wasn't charging...so I shelled out the $130 for a new batter - STILL wouldn't charge...took it in and it was an internal thing...of course it's no longer under the 3 year warrenty so I had to shell out ANOTHER $280 to get it fixed! luckily I was able to take the battery back, as it wasn't the battery but the internal board - but it still sucked. I totally feel your pain - BUT i must say - while it may be expensive, i LOVE the customer service you get with apple! :)
good luck and I hope your computer's ok!!!
Oh no!!!! Well, hopefully it's okay. Mine did the same but I had the flashing grey apple of death. You know you're screwed when you see that - It means your hard drive has crashed. :( Good luck! I hope it's something really simple!!
Lalya, I have no idea what you're talking about and I hope I never do. I really need to back everything up... hmmm...
i have had good experiences with the customer service / repairs there, so good luck - i think it'll be fine. I had my power cord catch on fire (well, singed i guess) and they just looked at it, shrugged, and gave me another. Kind of like a "apple cords shouldn't catch on fire - our bad" and made it right. Sweet!
@KMSull - Yes, backup everything! I learned my lesson the hard way. I had only had my MacBook for 6 months, so it was still covered by warranty (and I bought Applecare) but they couldn't recover anything - it was a total loss. Basically, if your Mac does some funky stuff and you turn it off and reboot and during the opening, when the grey apple shows up, instead of moving on to your desktop it just sits there - and then a few minutes later, that apple starts flashing and there is a white "thinking" ring in the middle - DOOM. Also, the same thing happens with the spinning beach ball of death. I'm not making up these names - that's what the guys at Apple called them! I literally cried for four days.
Got back from the Apple store. They're putting in a new HD today.
I learned about backing up when my HD crashed last year and had NO backup (my HD was so screwed up that time, I didn't even get the grey screen with the white apple). Unfortunately, this time I hadn't backed up in about a week. The good news was that I turned in all the homework I finished last week so I didn't lose too much. Last year I was lucky: I still had my warranty. This time, the warranty expired about 2 months ago. It wouldn't be so bad, but I took advantage of the great Rue La La sale to buy my china at an incredible discount. And then bought a Vita Mix blender b/c I saw a great deal (since I've wanted one for several years and figured it was WAY to expensive and that people wouldn't chip in to buy it off my registry.
Mskull--I hope you never experience it either.
I will say, I was much calmer about the whole thing this time!

I'm so sad. I guess it's sort of wedding related since I was about to update my registry
. My beloved macbook pro was making a weird sound, so I did a hard shut down. Now it won't restart, so I'm off to take it to the apple store. I hope it's just a boot error. Of course it comes the day before a major Photoshop project is due for the Photoshop class I'm taking (so that I can do wedding related projects better).
Thanks for letting me whine!
