I accidentally sent my iPhone swimming today, and it is no Dana Torres. It's going to be in a bag full of rice, hanging out on my radiator for the next 3-5 days. And then, it's the moment of truth. Please cross your fingers that my electronic baby will be okay. And if you have any tips for drying out my forlorn phone, let me know!

Oh no! Poor you! Fingers crossed for the iBaby... I'd be absolutely lost without mine.

Sorry no helpful ideas, best of luck with the rice, I've heard that can work quite well.

I drowned my iPod and my husband's phone all in one fell swoop.  It was not a fine moment.  I got downgraded to a nano after that because I didn't feel I deserved a full iPod if I was just going to flush it!

That sucks! I recently did the same thing with my droid incredible (and it survived!)! Except my phone only fell into a cup of water, but it fell in charger and battery side down and there was water hanging out behind the screen.

Good job on getting it into rice though...  Your best bet is to take it out once a day and give it a few good stong shakes to get out any excess water and then put it back into the rice.

And wait as long as you possibly can.  I would also call AT&T and see if you can activate an old phone to use in the meantime (or if they can give you a loaner phone while you wait)... The longer you let your phone sit the better!

    GOOD LUCK!

first, sorry that happended.. major suckage day for the redherring.

secondly, save yourself a headache and take the battery out and DO NOT turn it on until it is completely dry. If you didnt turn it back on after getting wet and took the battery out it should be good to go ofter sitting in rice for a few days.

That being said, you should still prep yourself for the worst case scenario....

    RIP IPHONE :'(

@panterapeach: I'm totally prepped for the worst case scenario. To add insult to injury, I had this fleeting thought this past weekend of backing up my phone, but I didn't do it. Because I am an idiot.

@redherring: gosh dont you want to kick yourself in the behind when your gut was right!!

Totally unrelated to the iphone but I just recently had an "I shoulda' listened to my gut" moment too.  This weekend I was taking down our artificial xmas tree (barefoot) and I thought to myself, you know I should put shoes on, and just as quickly I thought to myself...nah...I'm good -- why do I need to wear shoes in the house.

I kid you not, less than 3 seconds later, I stubbed my toe on the tree and sliced it up pretty good.  Serves me right for abandoning my God given feminine instincts...

I guess the lesson we both learned this week (all be it too late) is ...ALWAYS and I repeat ALWAYS go with the gut.

:)  seriously, I hope your iphone comes out ok...being phone/text/internet less sucks.

I once dropped my cell phone in a sink full of water. I put it in a container of rice for about a week and it worked perfectly. Hoping your iPhone works after the rice trick!
