We are getting a king sized bed, but….we just bought all of our bedroom furniture last year. It’s all from Ikea, so granted it was pretty inexpensive (may be $1000 total). But there is nothing wrong with it and we’d like to just replace the bed if possible. It’s a dark brown/black (Hemnes).
What would you do? Total other color like white? Fabric? Just a frame until we can justify replacing it all?
I was looking for a tufted headboard but I’ve had a hard time finding a decent looking one for less than $1000.

Can you get the same bed in the bigger size? That way it still matches everything else.
We did that with a dresser. We didn’t have space for it in our apartment but when we moved to a house with a bigger master bedroom, we went out and bought the dresser that matched the rest of our set (it was still available over 2 years later).

You can make a tufted headboard pretty easily, but I believe Overstock.com sells them.

Does all your current furniture match your bed now? If so then I would just do a frame until I could afford to add a nice fabric headboard.

I’ve been talking to my husband about this same issue lately. We really want to get a kind with a baby coming but i don’t see the point in buying all new bedroom furniture when we have 2 really nice sets.
are you against building your own headboard? it could be something totally fun for you and your husband to do together!
or you could always look on craiglist for a king size bed or headboard and just repurposes it by staining or covering the headboard in fabric.

@Mrs.KMM: Yes we can. This is an option. But we will want to upgrade eventually so I don’t know if we should spend the money on it now. It’s not expensive ($250) but we would also need to rent a truck to get it.
@vorpalette: We aren’t handy at all so I don’t know if this would work for us 🙂
@roxy821: Yes it does. That’s why I was thinking something totally different that would pair well with anything we upgrade to in the future.
@totheislnds: That’s cute! I wish DH were a handy guy but he can’t hang a shelf. I didn’t think about Craigs List. Thanks!

Walmart’s webiste has some tufted headboards that aren’t too shabby for $200 (and made in the USA). I say do that and just a bed frame from wherever you’re getting your mattress from. I bought a black one from them and am quite happy, it looks comparable to the Pottery Barn I had been eyeballing and cost 75% less. Plus walmart will ship for dirt cheap too!
