I have never been but am anxious to see what others post here because I really wanna go someday! Haha, hope you have a blast on your trip =)
I've only been once, during a trip in high school. So we weren't really clued in on the clubs haha 
I know there are several NYC ladies on here, so I'm sure you'll get some good tips!
aww! I went once & I loved it!! do all of the touristy stuff!! that's all we had time for, but would love to go back & do other fun stuff!
I don't really know anything about clubs (I'm more of a bar/pub girl myself) but as far as I know, most of the clubs are in Chelsea and the Meatpacking District. Be forewarned that lines are long and cover charges are typically quite high. Also, bouncers can be kind of rude and let some people in and not others.
I don't have any specific recommendations, but check Yelp.com for reviews.
I would recommend somewhere like Nikki Beach for a true club that is also a little bit more laid-back and not quite as crazy as some of the bigger ones. It also depends a bit on where you're staying bc it can be a pain in the butt to run all over town!
Other suggestions include Mercury Bar, which is in Murray Hill (east 30's) and Forum (which I think is in Chelsea). Both of these are more like bars with dance floors, although Forum is probably somewhere in between a club and a bar.
Other true club ideas are Tao and Mansion.

Those suggestions above are all great. Marquee was the huge "it" club for awhile a few years back and a lot of people still like to go --- that is a true "club" with dancing. Like the other poster above said, most of the clubs are in Meatpacking District. It can be fun for tourists. I also second Tao - but that is up in midtown, which is not close to Meatpacking - so you'll want to take cabs between these different places if you're going to go club hopping.
If you want more of a bar/club mix then Forum is a good option.

it depends on what kind of music they like to listen to.
There are so many clubs/bars/lounges here you can just walk around one neighborhood and bar hop.

.. Hip hop clubs there are a bunch and trust me there are ways around lines and pricey cover charges..
It depends on the time you decide to go out.. There are always promotions going on for one reason or another.. Most Big clubs (multi level ) have a reduced admission for ladies before 12 midnite or sometimes free before 12 midnite.. if you can get on a guestlist you can get reduced almost every time. And if you and a bunch of the girls want to put like 10 bucks each to get a bottle of something they usually dont make you wait on the line & give you a VIP table.. Mind you the bottles go for about 200 + in the club.. so if your looking to have a good time on your buck i say go with the girls way before 12 so you can party for free & if some ladies want to drink they can buy their drinks when you get in.. Most Hip Hop clubs have a mix.. or sometimes split level music.. like hip hop & salsa .. or techno & hip hop.. it depends where you go .. let me know when you will be around i can get you guys info on what is going on that weekend.. 
another thing i did with my gals and im going to sound like a drunk but who cares.. was go to happy hour at a bar or rest. on a friday the drinks are usually 3 or 4 bucks have a bite to eat wonder nyc window shop and then go to the club eairly like 11 be on the line some places try to trick you and hold the line so its past 12 so you have to pay.. sucks but trust me its happened to me .. @ 11:30 i so thought i was getting in before 12 the line stopped moving and boom 35 bucks to get in ..
I don't think Gallery Bar is technically a club, but there's a lot of dancing and it's fun, Happy Ending is really cool because it's totally hidden away on the LES and literally has the facade of being a massage parlor complete with a dirty old awning and stacks of towels in the lobby. Everyone's buzzing about circus but I've never been and of course there's Marquee which I'm sure everyone's heard of or been to.
Mansion is amazing! -Huge club two different types of music (2 rooms)
Pink Elephant- great music and atmosphere
Kiss and Fly- Good vibe
Cain- nice, but small
I do NOT suggest going to Marquee... the door guy David is a DICK!
1oak is a celb hot spot and is always fun
Greenhouse is the new(er) "it" club. All things GREEN, organic beers and such
Hudson Terrace- LiLo was there this last weekend
Tenjune rocks my socks!

In two weeks im taking the colleges foreign exchange students to NYC. I have been there twice and I am excited to show them what the big apple has to offer. We are good with daytime activities but the girls have told me they really want to go clubbing. I love to dance so im all for so does anyone know of any good night clubs in NYC! whoohooo im thinking early bachlorette party lol.
