I just splurged on a pair of vintage looking open toe shoes. I could have chosen a closed toe version, but they were slightly different style and more matronly looking.
here’s my dilemma: these shoes are expensive and I am very practical, so I will only buy one pair. most of the time I’ll wear them w/o hose. but sometimes I want to wear dark color, sheer pantyhose with dresses.
I’m not referring to nude hose, only sheer hose in colors like black or plum. the “fun”, vintage looking kind– like with stripes or dots.
so my question is…. what do you think? if I’m careful to tuck the seam away so you can’t see it, then would it be so bad to wear sheer, dark color hose with open toe shoes?
for reference, here are the shoes. my style tends to be fun and vintage:

I would totally wear black, plum or charcoal gray with those! I would make sure it doesn’t have that toe seam line or hide it : ) Those shoes would look great with skirts!

If they are a color I think it’s fine! I actually see it a lot of fashion blogs.

I always find that even if I tuck the seam it makes an appearance at some point.

You can buy seamless toe panty hose

Adorable shoes! Don’t go too sheer on the hose, stick with dark colors and mostly opaque. I would also wear tights.

Please don’t wear any kind of hose with open toe heels. I find that look rather tacky and open toe heels are made so you know the toes show not panty hose

I wear stockings with peep-toes all the time. I don’t get why they use a toe seam these days rather than the long ones they used to do under the foot on vintage stockings. They’re so much easier to wear!

I would avoid sheer hose with open toe shoes but I think opaque tights in fun colors or black are totally fine and actually in style.

@Meowkers: What she said!

sounds like several PPs are confirming what I suspect: opaque tights = yes, sheer, not so much.
most of the time when I’m dressing up, I wear no hose at all because I feel like it looks weird with formal wear. in that case, I put airbrush makeup on my legs (they are unfortunately very pale).

As far as sheer tights with open toed shoes- they make toeless tights, so that’s what I would wear (I realize this isn’t answering your original question, but just wanted to respond to the “no sheer tights” comments 🙂 ).

As shown in those pictures above, darker colored tights with open toe shoes are really on trend! Go for it!

@janie-janie: I voted “NEVER” but that’s before I read your post. I think with fun, vintage-type hose, it would be fine. 🙂 Cute shoes, btw!

These are disgusting, never knew they made these! yuck, they would bother me all the time being in between the toes and not covering the rest of the other toes….
