Okay seriously, just a little vent here. I just need to get this out. So I want to buy a Highlander Hybrid. It’s my real life dream car (as opposed to my fantasy vintage dream car). We found one online, went and drove it, it was good. The guy was really upfront. He had bought it at auction because something had dropped on the roof and the whole roof had been replaced. Because of that it was a good deal. Fine with me so long as it’s safe and the warranty is still valid. It wasn’t a write off or branded, no liens, it was fine. So we had an appointment to take it to my mechanic, we had to change it like four times to fit this guy’s schedule, then at the last minute he cancelled everything and gave some lame excuse about why he didn’t want to sell it. Okay fine, whatever, you’re weird.
We find another one in NYC. We have everything lined up to buy that one. I’m about to book tickets to fly down and get it to bring it back up across the border, when that guy cancels the deal at the last minute. *sigh*
First guy emails me a week or so later saying he’s ready to sell now, am I still interested. Okay cool. I take it to my mechanic to have him inspect the roof and structure, but tell him he doesn’t need to test drive it or anything since that’s not where the damage happened and both FI and I have driven it and it’s perfect mechanically. Mechanic gives it the okay but red flags the fact that there’s some corrosion under the seat and is worried it could cause electrical problems down the line and that it may not be covered by warranty due to the damage. So with the owner’s permission I make an appointment at Toyota to have them look it over to okay the warranty etc. This morning the owner calls and tells me he doesn’t want me to bring it in, that my mechanic was rude to him (which he wasn’t), that I wasted his time because my mechanic didn’t even drive the truck (which I explained four times why he didn’t), blah blah blah. He was really rude to me and wouldn’t even let me finish a sentence, I actually had to stop him and ask if I could finish what I was saying. I told him that clearly there’s just cause for asking Toyota to verify the warranty because I don’t want to be on the hook for a $15k electrical issue in 6 months. Then he said again I completely wasted his time. I sort of lost it and told him if he wanted to talk about wasting time how about when he cancelled the deal on me at the last minute before with no explanation and I already had a buyer (my dad but he doesn’t need to know that) lined up to buy my car. He hung up on me, LOL!
So I called the Toyota dealership, told them EVERYTHING about the accident and how fishy this guy is etc when I cancelled the appointment and to keep their eyes out for this vehicle because clearly he’s not representing it properly and fairly. So now he’s been red flagged. HA! Screw with me and I screw with you jerk!!!!
Sorry. That was long. That guy made me really angry. LOL!
