My kitty came from a shelter and her mama had the babies in a car engine and I don't know her birthday! I know she was born in Aug and I always acknowledge it somehow, but she doesn't have a reg. b-day.
yes we do in our whole family!!! FI and i don't have our own dogs, but my parent's dogs (read "my dogs" ) get birthday treats as presents...and yes we even sing to them!
Our dogs are totally part of the family 100%!
at christmas they each have their own stockings and receive at least 5 gifts from "santa". When we open presents they get their own turn..they get soo excited, soo cute!
Both of our pugs have special things for their birthdays. They each get a cake (strawberry, yellow, white, carrot or something else non-chocolate) with some sort of non-chocolate icing and ice cream (just a little piece of cake and ice cream, not too much!). They also both get a gift (usually a toy and a bone) on the birthday (so everything is fair). They also get Christmas gifts to open with the rest of the family on Christmas Eve (treats, toys, bones, etc). Our pugs are our children, so we think they should have a day celebrated in their honor too! :)

P.S. This is sort of funny too - they have both learned to associate the word 'Birthday' with excitement - so anytime somebody mentions 'birthday' they start wagging their tails happily and expect something yummy! We sing to them too usually.
@july: That is too cute for words!!! Love it
@krissybee: That made me smile hearing you sing to them. We always got our pets a toy for Christmas but I've never done anything for their birthdays before.
I was thinking a treat with some carob or yogurt as an extra special since they have never had them before, but they have sensitive little tummies and I don't want to make them sick
Yep! Here is a pic from our little girls 4th Birthday. She gets her annual steak! This pic is just my FAV!!
@sandDollar- aww, yeah its so fun because they really do get excited when we sing!!! they are sooo loved and we hope they know it :)
@annie- omg that is the cutest pic!!!!!!!!! A STEAK?!!!!! she is 100% smiling in that photo! i love it!
I know, I love her smile!!I can't believe she is looking right into the camera too, its like she's saying "okay mom I'll do what you want so lets get this picture done so I can eat!"
Adorable pictures! We don't know our kitty's birthday because we got her from the Humane Society. We don't really do anything for her birthday though. She doesn't want new toys and we give her soft food as a treat every few weeks.
We've given all the pets I've ever grown up with the same birthday, April 9th. It was the day my parents' very first cat was born in 1982, so over the years every cat or dog we owned or I owned as an adult has had that birthday.
They usually get extra treats and sometimes a toy :)
@AnnieAAA: THAT IS SO FREAKING ADORABLE!!! She is one happy pooch! You can totally see it on her face!
@Nexus: That is both hilarious and sweet that you give all your pets the same birthday. What a great way to honor your parents first pet, your pets, and your parents all at the same time!
Love the stories ladies. They are making me smile!
No shame. We celebrate to the max. There is cake. And ribs. And neighbors are invited (THEY TOTALLY COME). My family is insane.
@penguin - that's cute
I don't normally celebrate but this year my baby is turning 14!!!! I think that is reason to celebrate!
Okay we're not as exciting as Penguin, but I did make Duncan a cake once-here is a pic:
okay, crap, i can't do photo uploading apparently.
if you're interested, the pic is here: http://ohapostrophe.blogspot.com/2009/05/happy-birthday-duncan-and.html
I confess, I make a way bigger deal about my dog's birthday, gotcha day, and Yule than I do for the cats'. For the cats we'll get a new toy that'll be ignored in 2 seconds. But my goofy greyhound boy gets toys and treats and snuggles and new beds.... I figure I need to make up for all the years he spent in the kennels and racing.

Do you celebrate them or no?
Our pups are having their 1st birthday on the 3rd and I kinda feel like we should celebrate but at the same time I feel a little odd celebrating a dogs birthday, but they are our 'babies'!
Do any of you bees go all out for your furbabies?
