There's Montenapo at the NYTimes building, 41st and 8th, they have a pre theater menu, and their food is good. Also if you would like to avoid the touristy area of times sq. 9th Ave, has some good places, Esca (expensive mario battali restaurant) is on 43rd and 9th.
Hands down you HAVE to go to Carmine's on 42nd street. AMAZING Italian Food. Make sure you make a reservation though.. it's very busy for theatergoers
For great dessert, Serendipity III.
I've only been once as well so I'm not 110% what area it is in but it seems it was in the area, in a round about way!

Hello Hive,
You always have great ideas and I'm hoping for some more. I've planned a 30th birthday weekend in NYC as a surprise for my husband. As a part of the extravaganza, we'll be going to a musical (He actually loves them!). I'd like to take him out to a nice dinner before the show. He loves Italian, but I am open to anything. I've only been to NYC once and am not super familiar....
Thanks in advance for your help! :)
