Could she take a class in something she likes? Photography, knitting, painting, drawing, musical--piano, violin, maybe take up a language??
She should look around on meetup.com. I live in SF and know a bunch of people that have done book clubs, wine tasting clubs, etc. through meetup.
This is a really good lecture series: http://www.cityarts.net/programs.html
Not sure about meeting people at a lecture, but may be something interesting to do.
She should join a dodgeball or kickball team! They're popular in SF and there's often drinking afterwards! :)

Hi ladies. I have a good friend living in San Francisco who is going through a breakup and is fairly depressed right now. She's in her mid-30s and has lived in SF for about a year, but she works a lot and doesn't have many friends there. I really think she'd be happier if she got involved in some activities. The problem is I live in LA and don't know much about things to get involved with in SF.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Clubs? Organizations to volunteer with?
I know this is random, but I figured if anyone could help me, it would be on the bee :)
