Yesterday, I posted my concerns (warranted or no, based on unfair judgements or no) about the teacher replacing me. Well, I took some things to heart: remember that she is brand new and might be struggling, don’t concern myself too much with what happens since I am leaving, and definitely give her a chance. I was already GOING to give her a chance, but that thread reinforced it.
Today, the plan was for her to take over the classes today and receive feedback from me. I was so hopeful that the first two days were just her being shy, and that today she would be more energetic and talk to the kids.
SO I AM SO HAPPY TO TELL YOU THAT SHE DID SO WELL!!! I’ve never been happier to have been proven wrong. If she keeps this up, the kids will be absolutely fine. She even started doing research about the books she doesn’t know, and chose a book for the one other class that she is interested in. I am so relieved.
I am still so sad to be leaving my kids, of course. =( Anyway, in case you were wondering, there’s the update.

So glad things went well for her and the kids today! I think we all need an attitude check every once in a while, sometimes it is hard to not get past first impressions. Hopefully your new co-workers will have an open mind when they meet you:)

I’m sorry that I missed seeing your thread from yesterday; however, I’m so happy for you that you’re able to leave your students in hands that you believe are good and capable!
Also, thank you for being the type of teacher who cares so much about your kids!

@peachacid: Can you post the link to yesterday’s thread for background?

@LilRhodyGem: I deleted it because people were…not exactly being nice, and it was not a productive conversation. Basically, this girl who is replacing me seemed very unqualified, and seemed to have health problems, and was just weird and I was really concerned she wouldn’t be a good replacement. It was judgemental of me, but people took it to mean I thought I was the best teacher ever and that NO ONE could replace me. So I deleted it because I was misunderstood to an extent, and it just wasn’t productive (as I said).
Anyway! She was like a completely different person today, so I am relieved. =)

I hope you learned a lesson on judging people before giving them plenty of opportunity to prove themselves to be capable.
