ok, ladies. this happened to me today…. when driving on the highway & going at a constant speed… how many times do you typically signal (ie, let your blinker click) when switching lanes? it drives me nutty when people let their blinker click ONLY once while they are in the process of switching lanes. what’s the point?! i almost got hit today! gah!

Hmmm… on the highway probably once 2x. I’ve never almost hit someone though and always look over my shoulder before hand. 8 out of 10 times there’s not anyone there and I still flip my blinker. lol…… yea.. I’m the one that uses her blinker when she’s the ONLY car on the road. lol
EDIT: In like 5 o’clock traffic on the highway I don’t use a blinker b/c well… in the city I learned to drive in & visit family in… noone pays attention to them so you pretty much just force the lane change hoping not to get hit. lol

I blink until I’m 1/2 – 3/4 into the next lane, then I turn my blinker off. Usually that takes 3+ blinks. A blink or 2 to signal that I’m coming, and the time it takes me to get into the next lane is usually another blink or 2. Fiance waits til there’s an opening, then blinks once and goes. Drives me nuts! No pun intended. 🙂

I voted that I dont use a blinker, but there should be an option for other.
Most the time I dont, cause I’m in and out of there so fast that there was no point in bothering to signal. Or I dont bother if no one is even remotely near me either. Or I meant to cut some slow annoying person in the fast lane off.
If theres traffic and cars are closer and I’m not driving like a bat out of hell, which is rare, then I’ll bink 3 or so times and be quite curteous.

I blink 1 or 2 time before going. I have always checked to ensure I have space before ever turning the blinker on so sitting there with it blinking is just a waste.

However long is necessary to get in the next lane =P I live in California, and the traffic sucks and the drivers are terrible. But I’ve always been a defensive but courteous driver!

Usually 2-3 times, I check the mirrors and if it’s clear I’ll turn the signal on, then turn my head to double check, then merge. I learned to drive in central Florida where it’s jam-packed of tourist who merge whenever, I always signal.

totally varies…sometimes a ton, sometimes not at all! 😮

If there is no one around me then I don’t use one. I drive Mr. Tattoo’s Jag 99% of the time and if I need to signal, I just flip it on and as soon as I turn the wheel slightly to move over to the next lane, it shuts off on it’s own. It’s nice because then I don’t have to be THAT car that forgets to turn the blinker off. lol

2-3.. sometimes 4 or so if it takes a minute for the gap to be in the right spot. I commute over an hour each way to work, ALL highway and I have to say I flipping HATE people who don’t signal. It takes two seconds and can help avoid accidents.

@runsyellowlites: I’m also that person! I think it’s just habit for me. Though I’ve noticed since living in Chicago, that I let it blink longer because people are idiots and don’t pay attention. If I had a nickle for every person I see on the phone or texting while driving in the city, I would be able to pay for the wedding in a month.

I blink until I am getting into the lane. I HATE it when people dont use a blinker or when they only do it one time. Its dangerous!

@CupCakeMeg: Amen to that!
Luckily in central Cali, I don’t encounter much traffic on the highway unless there’s an accident or something. So it’s a non issue. I use a blinker in town, but rarely on the highway.

I really don’t know. I use one, but I’ve never paid attention. I usually put it on when I decide I’m going to change lanes, then turn it off when I get in the lane I want to be in.
