So I just found out that I’m getting money back from over paying into the MSP healthcare system! I already received a cheque but it wasn’t the full amount I was owed, and the next cheque should be arriving in about 5 weeks *wooohooo!*
I want to surprise Mr.G with a trip to Vegas…or anywhere fun really! He just recently took exams to become a Registered Massage Therapist, and I couldn’t be prouder of him. He deserves a little getaway.
It will likely be for 3-4 nights in the last two weeks of April. The reason I’m leaning towards Vegas is that I’ve never been, and he’s had a blast when he has been, and loves the buffets, haha. It would be a neat way for him to share something he’s done before with me.
I’m also contemplating a roadtrip down the Oregon coast, or perhaps a Vancouver Island getaway…ok, so really I don’t know where I want to go, I just know I want to take him somewhere!!

I went to Vegas last year and had a BLAST!!! I would recommend Bill’s Gambling Hall and Saloon for a great hotel and perfect location. (Other than the cheese-ball name lol) it is a great hotel. It’s small but RIGHT on the strip…I mean it is kitty corner to the Bellagio, across the street from both the Paris AND Cesar’s Palace. We had an amazing view of the Bellagio fountains everytime they went off. And you can’t beat the price. Because it’s a hotel with a little ‘history,’ you don’t pay even half of what you would in a big, name brand hotel yet you are foot steps away from all the action you could want. It also has a great little casino.
Check it out but I would highly recommend. We had a blast there! (PS did I mention the dollar margaritas they serve 24/7 in the casino???)

Thanks for the tips, I’ll google and check it out. $1 margs…24/7…yes please!!!

We went last year and had SOO much fun. We stayed at Mandalay Bay and got an awesome deal. We signed up for their email notifications so we got a great deal through that…I think around $75 a night? Our room was incredible!! Huge room, and huge bathroom with a soaking tub and a TV in the bathroom 🙂
The hotel is amazing and has tons of restaurants and bars, and a huge pool area with a lazy river.

Look on Allegiant Air’s website- flying out of Bellingham. Their fares are much cheaper than those from Vancouver because the taxes and fees are so much lower. I use Priceline when booking a hotel because I use the making your own bid section. Better deals that way on the bigger hotels.
I would recommend you find a hotel in the middle of the strip because it’s a long way to walk from one end to the other. Always check out your choice on http://www.tripadvisor.com before you book to get current reviews. Also check the hotel’s own website for current information. e.g. it’s very disappointing to arrive and find out the pool is closed for renovations.
You don’t need to rent a car unless you want to go out of the city. It’s a quick taxi ride from the airport to the strip.

I’ve only been once (with my buzzkill of an ex, but that’s another story) and it was pretty awesome. We stayed at Bally’s because it was cheap – not a bad place and right across the street from Bellagio and Caesars. We ended up not spending much on gambling and instead got tickets to see Penn and Teller. It was AWESOME! Seriously, like half the price of Cirque du Soleil tickets and hysterically funny.
I agree with the PP that suggested staying somewhere in the middle of the strip – because holy moly it’s a hike from one end to the other! I’m not a big gambler, but I absolutely loved walking through all the different casinos and seeing how they were decorated. Plus, there are so. many. AMAZING. restaurants in Vegas!
I think 3-4 days is the perfect amount of time to be there as well.
I’m dying to go back with FI (since my previous experience with the ex wasn’t as much fun as it could have been). We love watching the Hangover, so we want to have our own crazy vegas weekend.

We went there for our honeymoon! We stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. It isn’t on The Strip, so it was cheaper than some hotels in that area. We had a shuttle from our hotel to The Strip everyday. It was a beautiful place! And of course, the hubs and I love all things music so it was perfect!
We also saw the Beatles Love Cirque du Soleil at the Mirage while we were there. Absolutely amazing show! I would definately see it again if I had the chance!

Love love LOVE Vegas! I’ve been twice (once with my Bestie and again with DH) and even though we don’t gamble it was still an awesome place to visit!
In April 2010 we stayed at Planet Hollywood and were really happy with our stay, it’s right in the middle of the Strip and has the Miracle Mile Mall attached to it.
Something to think about when booking a hotel, the higher end hotels tend to have more expensive restaurants and eateries which can make a big difference to your costs if you working with a budget!

We went to Vegas two years ago in April. We stayed at the Imperial Palace, which is located right on the strip, near the middle- and is one of the cheaper hotels. You’ll spend so little time in the hotel room, that I don’t think its worth it to splurge on an expensive one.
It’s definitely an experience… so if your guy loves it and you’ve never been… it’s a must-go. Have fun!

Wawaweee, you ladies are making me really excited to go! Thanks for all the tips, I have been on line looking and have found some coupons for hotels which seems to make a nice difference 🙂
Also as @julies1949: suggested, being in Vancouver, it’s cheaper to fly out of Bellingham which I’m looking into. Mr.G has family in Bellingham, so we can leave our car with them and they can taxi us!
@Kemma: Budget is a concern, as I will be paying for everything (I love my starving student dearly, heh) and want to make sure we have an awesome time!!
@newbiecici: I’ve heard good things about the Hard Rock, but didn’t know there was a shuttle to the strip, that is a HUGE thumbsup!!
@Bostongrl25: Soaking tub…yes please!!
Haha, wow, everything sounds so amazing
Thank you, thank you everyone!!

I went to Vegas once with my parents right after I turned 21 … it was still fun, even with the parents. WE stayed at New York New York and I LOVED it. NYNY is definitely a middle of the road prices hotel on the strip. You are within walking distance of al the bigger pricier hotels and the pool is nice too. I definitely recommend it!
The buffets are great. The buses to take you down the strip and to old Vegas are awesome. Old Vegas itself is awesome too.
Pack me in your suitcase!

I’ve been a handful of times (5-6?) with my SO and enjoy it so much when I go!! I’m not a big gambler, but I love it for the people watching and spectating at table games. We’ve stayed at a bunch of the hotels, but most often at the Flamingo… it’s a great location on the strip and usually has great rates! Plus, we’ve talked our way into free upgraded rooms every time, so don’t be shy about asking about upgrades! Have fun!! You will both love it. We’re talking about going in June again 🙂

I grew up in Vegas…if you can fit it in the budget, you MUST go see Blue Man Group at the Venetian. It is an awesome show – good music and funny.

@newbiecici: Ah! I’m so excited to hear that you honeymooned there because that’s what we’re doing! Everyone looks at me like I’m nuts, but we love it and it’s really affordable during the week.
You will have a great time! Not to sound like a snob, but I’ve actually only stayed at the higher-end hotels, which are nice, but you can probably get about the same for much cheaper. Especially since you probably won’t spend much time in your room. I agree with the PP who suggested the Blue Man Group – they are awesome!
And I highly recommend watching the Bellagio water show. It’s so pretty.
