One of the reason I hate trying new restaurants is the service. All I really care about is decent food and decent service. I will never return to a restaurant where the service is bad. The thing is, I am actually very laid back. But when I have a bad experience, it just isn't worth it to return because going out to eat is so expensive anyway.
So, I basically go to places where I like the service. But YES, I have had bad experiences.
It might be a regional thing, but I felt like I always got better service in rural/further out in the 'burbs.
service has gone down so much in recent years, it's really appalling. i'm really laid back as well, but bad service pisses FH off a lot, and it's something I pay more attention to now.
As a former waitress, and someone who has worked in some form of customer service since I was 15, poor service irritates me more than anything.
I get that sometimes a person is just having a bad day. I have them too, but, you can tell when someone actually gives a sh** or not. I still get great service most of the time, and we eat out a lot. But now, when I don't, if it's especially bad I'll complain. I don't care if my food is wrong. I don't care if I have to wait a little bit longer than normal. If I'm in a store I don't care if they don't have my size in something. I don't want someone up my butt the whole time. All I want is to be treated decently. I am a nice person to have as a customer. I have been there. I have dealt with the Cranky Crankersons of the world too. I am on your side. So when you act like a jackass I don't appreciate it, and I will be a jackass right back.

In the area I live in, we have awards called "The Best of the Bay". In this previous Sunday's paper they had the ballots the readers could fill out.
One of the ballots was for food/drink. One of the fill-in-the-blanks was wait-service. Accordingly we are supposed to fill in the best restaurant we've had "the best" wait-service at in the past year.
I was filling it out with Mr.TKE and my mom. We thought about the answer to this particular blank for about 20 minutes (while answering other questions). We came up with nothing good. All we could think about lately is the terribly wait-service we've had while out to dinner, even at expensive restaurants!
Now, don't get me wrong, I have total respect for people who work in restaurants waiting tables. I myself couldn't do it but my mom did it all through high school and a few years after.
I'm just wondering how other people have felt about their recent (and not so recent) service at restaurants?
