Chateau St. Michelle Riesling, Marco Negri Moscato, or a local winery (Les Bourgeious) Concord.
I am a wuss and I like fruity wines. I really love wine from two of the local vinyards. (Christian W. Clay Vinyards and Greendance)
Most any white wine (except chardonnay). I like light sweet wines although they don't necessarily have to be fruity. Sparkling is always good too.
I'm working on aquiring a taste for red wine and some sweeter reds I can do, but most reds are too dry for my tastes.
ETA: Rieslings are some of my favorites and muscats/moscados are very good as well.
Pfffft, beer is a MUCH better pairing with cheese than wine! :-D
I am not really a fan of dry wines, but when it comes to sparkling, for some reason that doesn't matter! Sparkling is my friend.
I love my wine either sparkling or blush. Pink champage is the best!
Some of my favorite, easy to drink wines are Spanish rioja (both red and white): Maques de Caseres. It’s really very good and under $15/bottle.
My all time hands-down favorite wine is a 2005 Domain Chandon Pinot Noir, which is almost a cab more than a pinot.
(I don’t like sweet wines, even with dessert).
Now I just want to leave work, curl up on my couch with my man, watch a movie and eat a block of delicious cheese and drink a nice red wine out of my giant wine glasses.
@bonsai_spork: Is your giant wine glass similar to Jules's on Cougar town?"!!!!!!
I love me some dego red. My pap makes homemade wine and I love it! But if I had to pick another one I would have to go with a Cabarnet Sauvignon.
I am a pinot grigio girl.... I really like Barfoot pinot griogio, and often settle for Cavit- nothing fancy :) i think I am even going to drink some chilled white wine during this brutal snow storm!!!
Mmmmm, spicy reds. Malbec is my all-time favorite. I also love Syrah and Tempranillo.
Lately, I haven't been enjoying white wine as much as I used to. Especially sweet ones. I can't stomach sweet wine. I do enjoy a nice glass of Cava or Prosecco from time to time.
We've actually just found our favorite wine - 2008 J Lohr Cabernet. It's about $11-14 a bottle and it is sooo good. I have actually found that the wines in the $14 range are very good for the price.
@espressoandwine: This. Also Cotes de Rhone and anything Italian.
Too many choices! I like a lot of different wines. But not all at once. It kind of depends on my mood and the weather. Light and fruity in the summer and when I want my teeth to stay white. Dark and rich when I am home with FH eating a nice homemade dinner. Sparkling anytime, but especially when I am cooking, like Thanksgiving or Easter.... it makes it more festive, IMOP.
The deeper and bolder the red the better!
For the record, we served a lot of wines at our wedding, but the hit was Double Dog Dare Cabernet. At under $4/bottle before discounts we were enthralled with it (although you would have thought I told my dad I was pregnant at 16 the way he reacted to the $4 wine!) lol. I just finished off the last of the left overs and it's so sad! We had guests asking about it all night and some even ran to the store to get some the next day! Their other wines are decent but the Cabernet is AMAZING! Needless to say, my dad came up to me on the wedding day and said, K.... The double dog is a huge hit, great choice! lol
I'm a dessert wine kinda gal :). Vidal Ice Wine all the way! But the odd time when the store is out, sparkling is my next choice. >.<
I really like full-bodied reds. Mmmmmmm, wine...
I'll only drink white if it's sparkling. :)
I'm not much of a wine connoisseur--I've had a bad habit in the past of choosing my wine based on how cute the label was. My favorite, chosen this way, is The Little Penguin Shiraz. But I'm pretty happy with any not-too-dry red.
@Prettyinpink89: Mmmmmm, ice wine. You should go to the Inniskillin winery in Niagara, for $5 you get a tour and a tasting of red, white, AND ICE WINE!
@Prettyinpink89: We like to splash a little Ice Wine into a glass of champagne...makes even the cheapest champagne taste delicious! (A trick we picked up from a friend who used to work at a wine store in Philly).
@Mrs Sarah McK: Try buying a bottle of St. Germain elderflower liqueur and splashing that into champagne - same idea and DELCIOUS. We also splash that into white wine in the summer and garnish with raspberries.
We went to Chateau des Charmes in Niagara and that was where I tried it first :). My FI and I will definitely check out both of your suggestions!! >.<
Reds, the bigger the better. But I love a good representative of any of the above categories, and of course it depends on what I'm eating.
Except boxed wine. I've heard the argument that actual good wine is coming in boxes these days, and even been coaxed into tasting some of it - I was unimpressed.
@sloth: DH really likes Malbec. He "discovered" it at a cigar bar in NYC. We have a bottle of Coloros Del Sol right now. Have you tried that particular one?
@Entangled: I forgot about Cotes de Rhone! I had two glasses of that last night at a restaurant.
This thread is making me thirsty.
@Prettyinpink89: Ooo, we'll have to try Chateau des Charmes! My friends all make fun of me for loving ice wine. Actually, we went to Inniskillin for my sister's bachelorette during the day, and the lady also gave her a special tasting of sparkling ice wine. I was jealous, I'm not going to lie. :-D
Mmmmm... I'm excited to try some of these! For what it's worth, I love bold, full-bodied reds most of all (cabernet sauvignon, malbec, shiraz), plus spicy whites (gerwurtztraminer!) and extra dry champagne.
Some of my (affordable) faves:
Xplorador Cab Sauv
![]()
Funky Llama sauvignon blanc (cheap! - $4.99?)
Rex Goliath Merlot
Chateau St Michelle Gerwurtztraminer
Covey Run Gewurtztraminer
Hogue Late Harvest Reisling
Reds tend to give me nasty headaches so I stick to fruity whites-- I am a wuss :P
I'm a Napa girl - give me the biggest, boldest red you can possibly provide ;)
sparklers are my absolute fave. before i was on a diet, i had a champagne iv drip attached.
Dancing Bull (Californian) and Pelee Island wines are at the top of my list. I am such a wino, I'll try anything but I prefer the less sweet wines. I find the ones with too much sugar give me a headache.
Relax riesling... omg!! I can't get it anywhere in Canada, but it's my favourite & I track it down whenever I'm in the US.
Dry sparkling wines and spicy reds. Yum. I picked the latter for the poll, but I love both.
