I couldn't agree more! The Office has become very Pam and Jim central.... which is cool, but I liked the awkward funny in the office moments better.
LOL - I'm totally with you! Although the dork in me was totally excited that the Jim and Pam wedding episode aired the same week as my wedding, eventhough that episode was pretty lame ;)
LOL agreed. The baby stuff was funny IN THE OFFICE when people would make ridiculous inappropriate comments to Pam or Jim about it but it was a little overboard with all the latching and not latching and blah blah blah. I get it - Jim and Pam are finally together and now they have a baby. I could have used more funny in that episode.
Oh and BTW when FI and I were watching the baby episode he just turns to me and goes "This whole thing looks terrible" and I laughed and said "That's why we're buying a baby someone doesn't want." I was half kidding. Meh. I was like 25% kidding.
haha @ Kitty! Yes we both shared the same look of disgust and horror and other things during a lot of that episode. I know all's well that ends well, but the ep made me appreciate having the old episodes on DVD for laughs, and cats instead of newborns.
Although I will say one thing about the latching scenario - when she had to have that counselor guy or whatever the F his title was come in and help her with it, Jim's reactions were pretty priceless.
I actually love the wedding and baby episodes. I think now that baby has actually been born, the climax on those stories has kinda been hit and the show will shift to to other stories (Angela and Dwight or Andy and Erin). Also, I don't really like the new episodes with "Sabre." I dislike those plot lines a ton more than the wedding/baby stories.
I miss the first two seasons of The Office (remember the office Olympics episode?), but since those days seem to be gone forever, I wish they would bring back Holly! She had some of the best episodes and best lines ever in the most recent seasons. (Remember when she thought Kevin was mentally challenged? LOL! Sometimes I tell my husband, "You drove to the store all by yourself? Good for you!")
@mrs spring.. I think that the writers are just afraid to lose some of the focus from Pam and Jim, since they're obvious main characters and connect with a lot of fans. But if they want the show to stay fresh and make people laugh out loud, they're going to have to take some risks and play up the funny with the side characters. Especially Andy, since Ed Helms is totally popular now from The Hangover. I agree with you about Holly though - bring her back!
And for baby phobes like me, please writers, never ever EVER use the word "latching" again in that context.
Lol, melissabegins! I will say that I'm sure part of the appeal to me in the new tone is probably the fact my real life somewhat coincides with the story lines (as far as wedding/pregnancy/new baby stuff goes). Office funny (like the first few seasons) is easier to relate to for a wider range of people. Wedding/pregnancy/baby funny will probably only make you laugh if you can imagine yourself in that situation, so if you're not there yet, it might just be boring. :)
I also think that the writers received a lot of positive feedback when the show started shifting more toward Jim and Pam. If other people get bored with the new story lines, I'm sure they'll switch again (hopefully back to more stories with the supporting characters, like you said).
Yes! I agree! The Office is my favorite show (I watch the old episodes religously) but it's been too much Jim & Pam baby crap.
I am excited that the storylines between Andy & Erin seem to be moving forward. It also seems like they're working on something for Dwight. I'm hoping it will become a little bit more irreverant and topical like it used to be.
The Pam / Jim wedding was predictable, since they're so obviously good for each other. If we wanna shake things up, let's have a MICHAEL SCOTT wedding!! Or baby! For realz this time.
:) Thanks for sharing my office obsession, folks!
I feel like it's not just the Jim and Pam thing to blame. So much of the other stories are just STUPID lately. The latching was weird but Dwight destroying their kitchen didn't make me laugh, it was just annoying. Michael acting like an idiot during labor just annoyed me. Maybe it is because they are trying to incorporate the insanity that makes the office funny into real-life momentus occasions? I dunno. I have always loved The Office but it's not doing it for me any more. I also don't like that Jim and Pam are sort of becoming "one of them." I thought they were supposed to be the "normal" ones. I dunno...sorry for the rambling.
I think Jim and Pam are so boring now. I always think "guys, you can still play pranks on Dwight after you get married, it's okay!" FI and I joke about it and say we hope we don't lose our silliness like they did. I don't enjoy watching as much as I used to. I didn't even bother watching the baby episode.

Avert your eyes if you're avoiding Office spoilers.
Even though it's kind of relevant to us, since we're newlyweds and all... my husband and I are totally getting annoyed with The Office this season! What was a must-see show has been so watered down lately with all the wedding and baby talk. The ep last night was about 30 minutes too long and made me hyper aware of the change in style of the show. It used to be like a documentary about office stuff.. now the camera is with Pam and Jim while they're asleep in a hospital after giving birth? Not so believable! I'm ready for the days where The Office takes place in ... the office :) Less talk about nipples and more funniness, please!
