Maybe we can support each other?
@heather - Whoah! That's a long list! I'd definitely be up for supporting eachother :)
I am going to attempt giving up the snooze button again this year... this will make me get up and read the bible before work..
as the point for lent is to give up something in order to spend time with God.
**just to let anyone who is lurking know what lent is about**
Last year I failed at this. . but I am going to give it a shot!
I thought lent to give up something since God gave his life for us? But I am a fallen-away Catholic.
I like to give up something and do something. I gave up fast food for the new year so for lent I am giving up red meat. And I usually volunteering for a local non-profit.
Champagne, it is about that but the purpose of it is to spend time with Him in prayer and though to get you through the process.
I am "giving up" being out of shape, or in other words, I will be working out every week day. I already eat pretty healthy, and I gave up smoking a year and a half ago, so I think not-excercising is my last really bad habit.
It's always giving up something! Last year I went to church twice a week instead of only once, so instead of taking something away I added something to my schedule.
This time around I plan to:
1) Pray more
2) Exercise more often
Last year I gave up nagging...not sure what to do this year. I really ought to get thinking!
Cupcake I'm doing the same thing and it sucks!
What I don't get is people who laugh at those who give up a food item (and 99% of the time those same people don't give up squat). What they don't realize is that the particular food item is really a part of our daily diet. Yes, it's not a good thing to admit but it's true. I eat sweets all the time.
I'm grumpy during Lent. Look. It's already starting.
Good luck everyone.
Oh and Miss Biner, YOU ROCK!!!
I haven't decided yet! I gave up meat last year... and never went back. Doing that completely changed my whole diet and now I eat way more vegetables and just live a healthier lifestyle in general. I can't really decide what would be a legitimate thing to give up this year... :( I better do some reflection quick!
Here are mine:
@champagne wishes: in my parish (I'm a Catholic), we're taught that your Lenten promise also helps remind you of God's sacrifice so that every time you make your sacrifice (whether adding something that takes effort to add or giving up something that takes effort to give up) you are reminding of God's sacrifice of Jesus for us, & Jesus' sacrifice of His life for the forgiveness of our sins.
@heather & @Ottawabride: I'm for helping each other out too! I just started a thread in "Catholic", but it's open to any Lenten believers, or if you start one, I'd love to chime in to give & receive help in keeping these promises.
