Now that it seems that winter is finally over, garage sales are starting to pop up. My mom is a crazy g-saler. She scopes out the sales days before and has a whole plan of action. Last fall I agreed to go to a few with her and ended up scoring some pretty awesome stuff (apothecary jar for $1, hell yea!). As much as I could do without getting up at 7 am every Saturday, I really enjoy spending the quality time with her. We normally hit up a dozen or so g-sales and then go out to breakfast. It’s nice spending time with her and we always have a really good time when we’re together.
What kind of activities do you do with your mom?

It’s such a cliche, but we love shopping together. We’ll go to the mall and do some shopping, have lunch, do a little more shopping, and get coffee. It’s always so relaxing and lovely and is mostly just about getting to hang out and talk.

@UpstateCait: that’s awesome that you spend time with your mom so often & early!
i know a lot of people think this about themselves & their mom, but i swear i have the best mom ever! she’s awesome & i am so thankful for her=) as far as things we like to do together, we enjoy retail therapy, especially as discount places like tj maxx or marshells, i think great deals increase the efficacy of the treatment;) we also have taken some classes together just for fun, like cake decorating (her work loved this because she would take our cakes in each week for them to eat!), and pottery.

@MrsE.ToBe : That sounds like so much fun!
My mom and I are big on TJ Maxx too! Oh, and manicures. We often get manicures together.

@UpstateCait: i took my mom for her first mani/pedi a couple years ago. she had NEVER gone! hard to believe, i know! she works in a hospital, so she washes her hands a million times a day & doesn’t usually wear polish on them, and somehow her feet always look nice (physically we are nothing alike, she is skinny & blonde, i’m pudgy & have dark hair, my feet are always a mess & hers are cute) she was so funny though, she couldn’t stop laughing when they touched her feet because it was tickling her

We go shopping together, sometimes we get our hair done together, go to movies, or just talk over a meal and a glass of wine. I honestly wish we could spend more time together, but she’s about 30 minutes away and doesn’t drive much. I know it doesn’t sound like it’s that far, but it’s annoying with the cost of gas and me doing all the driving.

@iheartnerds: It takes me about 25 minutes to get to my parents so I know what you mean.

I always go to Soupplantation or this amazing Indian food place with my mom since my hubby doesn’t like either of them. We get pedicures and go shopping together, I drug her along for so much of the wedding shopping. We even drove up to LA’s garment district and searched all day for my necklace and shoes. We shopped until she dropped 🙂 My mom is my favortie shopping partner!!! I have shown her how to get good deals and it’s fun to brag about what we’ve scored at the end of the day. I love my mom. Last weekend she hung out with me and gave me advice while I was making a no-sew baby blanket for a friends baby shower.

My mom and I live pretty far away but we make a point to video Skype for about 1-2 hours once every two weeks or so. Its usually when we’re both having coffee, and its pretty cool. When we actually get to visit, we usually spend time with my little brother and sister (9 & 7), go out for lunch, for a walk etc. She’s coming to visit next month and I plan to make her go jogging with me. She’s always went running but I’ve recently gotten into it and am training for a half marathon. We’ll see who drops first! haha
