So, as you may have seen me write, my school is closing January 15th. Upon hearing this, I immediately began looking for and applying to other jobs in the area. I had an interview for a job on Wednesday, a second interview yesterday, and I have a feeling they will call with an official offer this afternoon.
THEN, I hear today that my current school might get the “stay” it’s applied for, which means it will stay open through the end of the school year.
Pros for staying at my current job:
It is what I am used to.
It is relatively easy…which is never an awesome thing.
I like the kids and some of the people I work with.
My salary is $6K (or so) higher than what I would make at the other school.
Cons for staying:
The administration is nuts.
I don’t like their educational philosophy.
The school will not be here next year.
The drive is 45 minutes every day.
It is not challenging and therefore not productive toward my development as an educator.
Pros for going to the new district:
It is a real district
It is 25 minutes from my house
It would provide stability for ONCE in my life
I like their educational philosophy
I would be challenged
Cons for going to the new district:
Obviously I would miss the kids
Salary cut…but with potential to make more eventually.
What do you think?
Of course, this could all be for naught, as I haven’t actually gotten the job yet. So yeah.
