    So Mr. G and I are headed out of town for a weekend of wedding planning. Normally I pack for both of us b/c I take the day off from work the day we leave, and he just has to come home and hope in the car. Well, I wasn't able to do that this time, so I had him pick out his own clothes.

    Oy vey!!

    I double checked his bag - thank goodness I did! This man had two pairs of pants, one button down, two polos, and six t-shirts. Three socks (not pairs!) and NINE boxers. For a three day trip. Let's just say I repacked his bag!

    So tell me - what do you and your SO do?!

    If I didnt pack, there would be no toothbrushes, underwear, shirts....we would end up with a pair of socks!  I pack as much as I can in our bags, and I LOVE when says something like "man, I really wish I had the blue shirt" and I whip it out.

    I do the same!  I'm sure he could pack his own suitcase...  I mean, he did go on trips before we got together, right?  But I would rather do it to make sure!  Right now he is traveling a lot for work and I've been paking his suitcase every time he has to go.  The last time when he came back home he left ALL his shower stuff at the hotel!  It was about $15 worth of products...  (not too much, but still!)

    @Miss Godiva:  hahaha that's hilarious!   What exactly was he planning on doing with three socks?!  And NINE pairs of boxers?!  Wow...that's taking the boy scout motto to the extreme!

    DH and I travel a lot and we usually pack our own bags.  We both travelled a lot before meeting each other so we're quite used to packing and have our own systems for doing so.  The one time I tried to pack for him (solely because he was really busy at work and I had time to do it), he basically unpacked everything and repacked it the way he likes it.  So far, our system has worked well...

    I pack for both of us; we usually just take one big suitcase between the two of us anyways so it's easier. And if I didn't pack we wouldn't have little things like toothbrushes and poofs for body wash.

    We pack out own things.  He's pretty good and I'm normally the scatty one.  That said, we both remind each other of things.  He's good at packing light and gives me a funny look when I insist on packing more that one pair of shoes (different styles!).  I also use up a lot of space with my hairdryer and diffuser.  I'm also quite a cold person (as in I feel the cold) so even if we're going somewhere hot I insist on lots of warm things.  I always end up taking something "smart" too.  There's always a lot of things unworn when we return.

    When he moved to Singapore I helped him pack his bag.  He took so little!  And I was fussing. ETA: mainly because I have a packing system and he just chucks it all in.

    Sorry I never came back to reply - my computer crashed when we got back from our trip, and I'm just getting it back up and running! (I've been so lost w/o it LOL)

    @JessieK:  oh yeah, he didn't have a toothbrush in his bag either. And I love that feeling! You want your purple pin stripe long sleeve button up? It's in your bag. *smile and wink*

    @auggiefrog:  that reminded me .... when we moved from SoCal to NorCal, I was working the day the moving people came. (We had them pack all of the boxes and load the truck.) He COMPLETELY forgot to have them pack the guest bathroom AND our laundry room stuff. I was so mad. We ended up giving like $80 worth of toilet paper and cleaning supplies to friends/family because we didn't have room in the car for it, and I couldn't mail that stuff. Oh, and we gave our spot cleaning vacuum (sarcastic voice: only like $150) to his brother. UGH! /end rant/ haha

    @Ree723:  hahaha I don't think he thought about it, he was just throwing stuff in. Boys! That's great that you guys can each pack for yourselves :)

    @bebefly:  that's cool that you guys can share a suitcase - I normally have too many pairs of shoes ;-)

    @ladyartichoke:  oh, I've always got at least three pairs of shoes! Flip flops, sneakers, and heels. Always! And there's always stuff unworn. I'd rather have too much than not enough and have to go buy something, when I've got perfectly good stuff at home!

    We both pack but I generally have to remind him about belts, contacts, etc. and he will do the same and remind me about my hair straightener, etc.

    We both pack.  He'll pack all of ours or vice versa.  There's days where we pack our own stuff.  FI used to travel for work so he's pretty good with it.  If anything I'm the one who forgets everything.

    We both pack.

    When we go places like oh say, a nascar race, my husband packs everything he knows we will need - ponchos, seat pads, sunglasses, ect. I pack other things like clothes, jackets, ect.

    If we go somewhere we will be staying for a while (days) then I will make sure everything clothes wise that we need is washed & have it all laid out & we pack it together.

    I have no problem with what he packs for himself. He dreses well and packs well.

    A tip for those who haven't travelled much. If we are flying, after we have chosen what we are going to take, we pack half ( half of the undewear, half of the shirts, pants etc) in each suitcase so in case one piece of luggage is lost we each still have some clothes to wear.

    I pack; I have it down to a fine art. When we go it's usually for 2 weeks long-haul so I like to make sure we have things like a basic first-aid kit, enough sunscream, etc. Oh, and he MASSIVELY over-packs so I have to reign him in and insist that 20 shirts and 7 pairs of pants and 7 pairs of shoes are OTT and that he can scale down to half that lol.

    Also, we pack half and half, so if one of our cases doesn't show up, we have a decent amounf of stuff with us.

    I have to pack for FI no matter where he/we go or what we do.  That man is useless with a suitcase.  And it's not even so much that he packs the wrong stuff, but that he'll wait until the morning of his 6am flight to pack for his two-week trip across the country.  It stresses me out so much I need to just pack for him a day in advance.

    Then again, this is the man who routinely runs out of underwear because he doesn't like doing laundry but won't tell me when he's down to two or three pairs (can't tell you how many times I've had to rush to do laundry the day before one of his business trips because he's going for a week but only has 2 pairs of clean boxers left).

    I pick out my clothes, but FH likes to pack the suitcase.  I just throw stuff on the bed.  However he always has to go over a checklist with me before he leaves for a trip to make sure he didn't forget anything.

    @Miss Orchard:  that's sweet that you both remind each other of stuff :)

    @MissPumpkinPie:  the travelling probably helped!

    @Mrs.Estep:  great teamwork :)

    @julies1949:  that's a great idea! we normally drive, but next time we fly I'll have to remember that.

    @barbie86:  you do have it down to a fine art ;)

    @pinkfrog:  hahaha sounds like my man!

    @Stammie16:  We do the same, just flipped. I have him pick out his clothes and just leave him on the bed. Then I somehow make it all fit!

    Benefits of having an LDR-- we both learned how to pack our own stuff!

    (Though he is good about reminding me to bring certain things... I'm the most forgetful person on the planet sometimes!)

    We each pack our own stuff.  I freak out over leaving things behind, and can really only handle making sure I have what I need.  The last time I packed both of our stuff, I forgot DH's sleep shirts.  He said he was ok sleeping without a shirt, but having to change a daily routine because of an item being forgotten at home would drive me nuts!

    It's not that he'd be a wreck if he packed, he just kind of started expecting me to do it for him when I moved in with him. I admit that I get grumpy if I've forgotten something just because I hate having to remember everything for two people. However, it gets better with every trip.

    We both definitely pack our own stuff. No way I will be reponsible for his bag AND mine that's way too much stress. Besides, these are supposed to be adult men -- how can they not pack a bag for a trip on their own? Last time someone packed a bag for me was when I was like 10 years old.

    We each select for ourselves what we need, but I am definitely the one who puts it all in the suitcase. I'm obsessed with finding the best way to make the most stuff fit, and he would jsut throw it all in and hope it closes. I also have to remind him that he doesn't need a pair of jeans for every day and that we have travel-sixed shampoo for a reason.

    we each pack our own bags & any extra stuff I want I put in the hall near the doorway & he packs the car then checks & locks the house while I faff around trying to think of what I have forgotten, works well :-)

    We do our own packing.  We also do our own laundry though and in general keep our clothes separated so it would seem strange for me to pack his stuff or vice versa.

    I'm crazy. I make lists. He lets me. It's all good. :)

    In non-crazy that means: I pack. I ask for his input on what he wants to wear, but I pack.

    It really depends! If it's a trip we are going on together, we tend to pack together, and he is great about helping me figure out what to pack. I have a hard time narrowing it down, and if left to my own devices, I'd pack about three suitcases for a weekend trip! Last year I went to several conferences and in between grad school full time, work full time, training our pup, my mom's health issues, my health issues, & volunteer gig I had my hands full. For at least three of those conferences, I think he did at least 50% of my packing and he wasn't even going! For the last one, I was on the phone with him (an hour drive each way, so at least I get my NPR in usually!) telling him what to toss in my bag.

    Wow this thread blew up! Thanks for all of the funny responses ladies.

    @brenda.m.fields:  most of our travelling is down south, and we either stay with his parents or brother/SIL, so we don't bring common items like shampoo & conditioner. (They do the same when they come stay with us!) We do crazy-short weekend trips, and I'm not bringing any bottles (even small) for one shower. I could use that space for shoes!

    @traveller:  I'm lol-ing at the vision of "faffing" around the house, I do the same! I pack the stuff he's picked out, then pack the car. Then I "faff" while he walks the dogs, and we meet at the car.

    @RockStar33:  & @AmeliaBedelia:  I am a list lover, too!

    @ItsHollyAgain:  that's really awesome that he helped you out so much! he's a keeper :-D

    The poll doesn't include this option: DH sets out his stuff (I don't decide what he's going to wear) and I pack everything into the suitcase.  I have mad packing skills!

    @chastenet:  I wish I could edit the poll, because it should! That's what we do most of the time. He tells me what he wants or lays it out for me, and I do the rest. (Getting all of his toiletries and fitting it all in the suitcase!)

    Once I did try to pack for him and myself, and well. It was once and it was enough! I always forget something :D

    FI has the ability to pick out what he needs for travel.  How he puts it in the bag however, is a totally different story.  I have to unpack and repack it for him.  We usually share bags when flying to save on bag fees.

    We pack our own things, and then pack the "joint things" together (like our camping gear, food stuff, etc). He'll usually pack our toiletry bag too (toothbrushes, shampoo, etc).

    I am a heavy packer, and he is a light packer, so it takes him like 2 minutes to pack (unless it is an extended trip). I, in order to avoid forgetting anything, have to plan out what I am packing ahead of time so tend to have a list and a pile of stuff laid out on the floor 1-2 days ahead of time.
