I’ve been living out of the country for about a year. I went home once in November to find that my family had been driving it, one of my window motors was busted, and it wasn’t clean. Now I’m moving home in 2 weeks and I mentioned to my mom that I’d like my car to be in the same condition as I left it in and that it can’t smell like smoke because Kingy has to take clients out in it the day after we get home. She suggests that he get a rental car until I have time to get it detailed. Then when I say no and that it should be detailed, she said “I’ll make sure its clean”. Well, that seems pretty unfair to me considering I left it spotless and niether Kingy or I smoke. I don’t want to start a fight with my mom since I haven’t seen her since November but I want this detailing done pronto. Should I just tell her to take money for my account to do it?

I wouldn’t give them the money to do it. They are the ones who messed up your car and broke it! They should fix it!

no I think they should pay for it if they took it without your permission and smoked in it as well. Especially if you don’t smoke. It’s your car and you should have a right to use it. They are being unreasonable.

I’m with PPs. That’s so crappy of them. My car is kind of a pile of junk, and I would still be really mad if someone smoked in it. 🙁

@kingytobe: I have to say, if it were me I’d be pretty upset with my parents if they did that to my car. Unless their name is on the lease, it should be treated with the same care that you’d show to a car that belonged to a car lot. Unless you want to pay for the detailing or any repairs that need to be done.

This would make me SOOO mad! My mom did something similar (worse, I think). Fiance bought me a new car. It had to stay at my house for a week because I was in college in another city. My mom drove it multiple times. My dad drove it to work (the oil fields- think dirt and oil).
THEN…my mom crashes into a curb in a parking lot. The side of my car has a huge crack in it and my bumper is permanently effed up. She didn’t have the money to pay for it, so it’s still like that. I love my mom, but why??!!!!!
Anyways, I feel your pain.
