I have a job interview this week for a pastry chef position. My interview is more like an audition, and I have to make two desserts. So, I’ve been working on these two for the past few days, and while I know you can’t taste them through the bee, I thought I’d get some opinions on how he overall presentation of the desserts looks.
So what do you think – first impression, would you be pleased when the waiter sat these down in front of you, if you ordered either of these in a restaurant?
#1 – Sugar Cream Pie Tart with Salted Caramel Sauce
#2 – Chocolate Hazelnut Tart with Blood Orange Sauce
Sorry these photos are so big and kind of crappy. Fiance says my pastry skills are better than my photography skills. 😛
Let me know what you think!

Both look soo good! I like that the first one kind of looks like a peice of coral!

The first one sounds/looks great!! The second one – from the name, I would be a little skeptical of the combination of chocolate and orange but I would probably trust that the chef knows what she’s doing. It looks adorable though! Can I taste them now?

Oh I want it!!! YES that’s a good impression!
But–I think I’m gonna need a taste to give you an accurate answer. 😉
Good luck with your interview! You’ll nail it!

Those look so delicious, and I doubt you could go wrong with either. I personally would order your first one. Good luck, I hope you get the job!

#1 looks like flan, and I really like flan so I am drawn to that one. Orange and chocolate I dont like together but the presentation is amazing!

Both sound incredible!!! I’d love to try both of them! The first one is absolutely beautiful as well, looks top-chef worthy! The second one looks great except I’d maybe do something different with the sauce? I’d just worry about it making whatever the bottom of the dessert is soggy.

I think you need to clean up the sauce on the second dessert. Its overwhelming. I would just drizzle it over the top.

Yes, to both. The second one is making me drool.

I agree, the only thing I think I might change is the sauce for the second one. Or maybe put it on the plate differently?
Either way they look SOOOO good and would totally order them in a restaurant.

I think they’re both awesome looking and tasty sounding, but would you want them to both be tarts? I’m worried that your potential employer might worry about the variety of the menu you’re capable of.

They both look amazing! I would go for the second one in a heartbeat…chocolate/orange is a yummy combination done well, and I looooooooove chocolate! Good luck- if they taste as good as they look, I’m sure you’ll nail it 🙂
