Marche in the west loop is wonderful and the decor is awesome (looks like Moulin Rouge meets Carnivale!). It's perfect for a girl's night out!
If you're looking for a crowd-pleaser, also look into Grand Luxe on Michigan Ave. It's a chain but it's pretty nice and their menu is HUGE so there's something for everyone. My friends and family from out of town love that place.
Nacional 27 - good mexican(?) food. Dancefloor opens up at night (after 9pm i believe).
Quartino - Italian tapas. its a bit loud in there but its a huge restaurant and many of my friends like it.
I second Quartino-- you can eat and drink inexpensively and the atmosphere is fun with a group! For steak, I love David Burke and Carnivale has a really great ambience and the food is delicious.
One of my fave restaurants in this city is Gilt on Kinzie street. The food is SO good, and I love the laid back but chic atmosphere. Would love to hear other people's fave restaurants!

chicago bees,
i'm still new to the area and i was hoping to get some restaurant recommendations for friends who are coming into town from california. what are some of your favorite restaurants here (but not sushi since there's plenty of good sushi in CA). up to $60/pp would be great. tia!
