I would love to go back to Rome during the golden age. Indoor plumbing, decent rights, and it looked like it was incredible. I would bring a broad spectrum antibiotic and a book on herbal medicine. Not like crunchy snake oil herbal medicine but like, legit, natural plant medicine stuff. Like foxglove is what we make digitalis out of kind of info.

I would drag DH along too and get him to bring something we could use to set up a trade there. Because I would for sure want to be middle class and up in Rome!

Someone is definitely going to take this the wrong way and call me racist.

I would take DH, and I’d want to go to 1855 Georgia! (But it has to stay 1855 forever…)

And I’d live in a fabulous house and wear fabulous dresses! Really, I’d pick it just for the clothing. I used to do costuming, and the 1850s are my favorite period for clothing ever!

I would bring my net value in gold (to afford all those pretty dresses and a nice house), and my modern camera!

@peachacid:  I would take my fiance and a Tardis and go whenever the hell we wanted.

Sorry but I can’t bring myself to answer this question seriously! There are so many things we could bring; so many places we could go…

@peachacid:  Especially since I am fairly certain you are a good 140 years too soon for a DVD player.

Semi-off topic but I have always thought a great sci-fi alternate reality book would be about what would happen if time travellers took back antibiotics to right before the black plague, how advanced society would be now if it hadn’t been almost totally destroyed several times during the dark ages.

I’d love to visit other times, but actually going to stay would be pretty shitty unless you were guaranteed to be white and super rich. And even then, your chance of dying before you make it to 50 is way too high for my tastes. Not to mention that as a woman I’d have basically no rights. I’ll take women’s rights and modern medicine any day!

@peachacid:  First one was in Justinian Constantinople and killed like half Europe before it went away in the late 700s. Then again in the 1340s-1350 and killed 50%+ over all in Europe, 30-40% in Egypt and more in Asia/India where it originated. Between 75-200 million people died in like 5 years. Surely one of them had a history changing idea in them!  And about as creative as I get is wondering what it would have been like!
