I can't STAND the sound of silverware being rubbed together while someone's cooking or eating. Like, I rush to cover my ears and sing a song loudly while running out of the room.
Bruschetta- I swear I could have written your post! HAHA. I am the exact same way and do the exact same thing!
HAHAHA Bruschetta thats funny. I CANNOT STAND the sound of another person brushing their teeth. Makes me cringe. Or, when someone eats and bites the fork and scrapes it against their teeth. Ugggh
Also, when people use the word "heart" as a freakin verb. "I heart this!" HEART isnt a flippin verb.
I hate it when people stand so that they are blocking a doorway or path. It seriously just makes me irrationally angry. I think it is SO RUDE. If it's two people, I'll throw out my elbows and walk right between them, out of spite.
I can't stand the sound of someone scratching their skin. If it keeps up, I literally have to leave the room...
haha amadopolis! I've done that too! Why should I have to walk around and on the grass so that all four of you bffs can walk side by side?
I can't stand mouth noises - like when people chew too loudly or are mouth breathers. OMG just thinking about it typing this makes me want to scream.
Shopping carts left in the middle of the parking lot. Height of laziness! The cart corral is just another 10 steps. USE IT!
I hate hearing people chew...especially crunchy things! Drives me crazy!
I totally agree with you NC Girl! Mine is when people stand too close to you while in line. It's called personal space- respect it. :D
Lol I agree with a lot of the posts so far. I'm big on mouth noises too, smacking and heavy breathing eww.
Also I can't stand the sound of chalk on a blackboard. Nails are of course worse but even chalk gets to me. I used to be a student teacher with a kindergarten class my last two years of highschool and during playtime the kids couldn't play with the blackboard because i just couldn't stand it hehe.
Oh and last but definitely not least is styrofoam! I hate the stuff so much. The sound makes my teeth hurt lol, I'm not sure how it does but every time I hear someone touching styrofoam or pulling it out of a box my teeth go crazy!
People who bring their children into our office (yep, I'm at work!) and then let them a) run around like crazy monkeys b) scream their little heads off or c) leave them in the lobby with me while they go back for their intverview. ARGH!!!!!
I can't stand the sound of someone eating if I'm not eating. Like in a really quiet room, or in class. I know its mean, but I just can't stand it!
Ugh....I hate the sound of someone eating crunchy food in a quiet place too...especially cereal or chips. Also it makes me insane when I'm eating to see someone talking with food in their mouth...ewww...
I can't stand when someone gets gutsy enough to pull out or merge in front of you in traffic, but then proceed to go under the speed limit! I mean make up your mind. If you're going to drive agressively, be consistent. Don't agressively pull out in front of me, then drive like a grandma.
Ha, Tanya123, I hate that too. I'm always yelling at people for that!
One of my pet peeves is ill fitting clothing. I really don't need to see your boobs/butt crack/muffin top, thankyouverymuch.
Bad grammar, especially in the workplace.
My noisy, inconsiderate, college-student neighbors, especially the one with the DRUM SET.
Escalators. They are the absolute height of laziness unless you are disabled/injured or elderly, and I really think that only those people should be permitted to use them. If you've got able legs, just walk up the darn stairs, seriously.
The fact that one of my office managers' cell phones rings 15 times a day, when the first thing she tells every new hire is, "No cell phone calls except during your lunch hour." And no, they are not work-purpose calls.
Oh jeez, it's like you guys are reading my mind. I deliberately don't give up ground if people are hogging the sidewalk. Sidewalks are for 2 way traffic--this is my half, this is your half. Move over!
Also? Unnecessary rudeness. I get absolutely disgusted when I see people being short/rude/condescending to strangers, whether they are service workers or fellow customers or just people walking down the same street. It's like, really? It takes much more energy to be a bitch than it does to mind your own business and take your bad attitude elsewhere.
Excuse my language. :)
Poor grammar, spelling, and punctuation. I work in tech support and spend my day responding to the e-mails of professionals who type like fifth graders who just don't care.
People kicking the back of my chair or talking during a movie is another biggie.
The rest of my pet peeves tend to be driving-related. 85% of the people out there are complete morons on the road. At least the people I encounter are!
I'm with everyone on the eating noises. The crunchy stuff bothers me if I'm not eating too. People chewing with their mouth open really irritates me. How do people not learn to close your mouth while chewing?!?!
I also get annoyed when people know a lane is closing/exiting but they refuse to get over until the last minute! What makes them think they are so special that they can get in front of everyone else? On my drive home from work, there is one section where two lanes go left and my one lane goes right. The two left lanes always get backed up so people go down my lane and then slam on the brakes when they are trying to cut back in. I get SO angry!!
When people are disrespectful or rude to the elderly. OOH it irks me so bad when someone is rude to an elderly person!!! I take care of my 94 year old grandmother, who is sweet as can be, and one time this stupid punk grocery bagger at the local market rolled his eyes at her when she asked for her cold things to be put in a paper bag and I nearly socked the SOB! NINETY FOUR years, if you live that long and see what some of the elderly have lived through, have some RESPECT! I understand there are some irritating older people out there, but it's usually for a good reason (loneliness, no one to care for them, etc.)
Also laziness (leaving trash lying around, not putting shopping carts up, etc.), people driving like idiots while on cell phones (sat at a light one time, and stared though windows, all 16 people that passed me were on cell phones!!!!!), over-drinking/drunkeness (will NEVER understand the desire to be wasted), PEEING ON THE TOILET SEAT - omg why do women do this?!?! I've actually stopped women leaving the restroom with yellow puddles on the seat and been like, Ma'am, you left something behind!
The sound of nail clippers gives me the heebee jeebees! LOL! I have to leave the room. The worst is when this happens in church--no lie, I have exprienced this TWICE! <<shudder>>
I hate it when people don't use their turn signals, I mean it's right there! How hard is it? I also get really annoyed with the parents who let their kids go all buck wild on the airplane. I'm much more understanding if I see the parents are at least trying to control their kids, but the ones who just let them do whatever they want and let them be as loud and obnoxious as they want really, really bother me.
I really find it completely disgusting when I hear anyone chewing or eating.
Heh, a lot of these bug me really badly as well, especially hearing silverware clink against people's teeth. For whatever reason neither of my brothers can eat anything with a spoon without scraping it on their teeth. uggggghh..
One of my pet peeves specifically to do with my darling, darling husband (;)) is his tendency to pick at his toenails. Constantly. I mean, he will be driving and we will come to a stoplight and his left foot will be up against the dash so he can pick at his toenails. The other day we were on a road trip and as soon as the cruise control was on the RIGHT foot came up. Watching a movie, playing video games, sitting at the computer, sitting on the edge of the bed. He used to pick at his nails and actually get out trimmers to cut them in church and in classical concerts -- thankfully he listened when I asked him to knock it off there at least.
Hospital/health care employees still wearing their uniforms outside of work -- especially in a restaurant!!
I HATE HATE HATE the sound of styrofoam rubbing against ANY THING o and ALSO people smacking...
amack - I'm with you. I absolutely respect hospital workers for what they see/do in a day's work, but it bothers the crap out of me that they wear their scrubs home. With all of the germs and bacteria in hospitals that get on your scrubs, not to mention blood or waste possibly getting on them, you're now wearing them home and tracking the germs everywhere else!
Also...peeps. Yes, the sugary marshmallows around Easter. I cannot stand the thought of them! Just thinking about all that sugar against my teeth makes me shudder...ugh...
Ugh lots of these are good, I can't stand the idiot drivers, styrofoam, and even tissue like material rubbing together....omg it makes my teeth hurt and makes me want to throw up (i have no idea why??)
My biggest pet peeve is someone telling me I don't want/don't want to do something. For example: I want a Ford Mustang. Someone told me "Oh you don't want one of those, they always break down and I don't like them." I don't give a @#$% if you don't like them. Don't tell me what I want or don't want because you don't know!! It drives me absolutely nuts!!!!
SpinningJenny - I'm with you 100 percent! I really cannot stand it when a group of four or five people is walking side by side on a sidewalk, and they don't move, and just expect everyone else to wait until they pass. No annoying! I really wish people understood that if we were in cars, they would kill someone, or at the very least, get a ticket. Sometimes I wish there was "sidewalk police" or something. It sounds ridiculous, but that kind of thing drives me nuts.
Also, when people go into a really popular fast food place (like Subway) and they don't know what they want. Really? You've got your basic deli meats and fixin's. Then they start asking questions. Ugh!

EEEk! I am at work right now (yay library) and a patron is sitting at the computer not 5 feet from my desk chomping on her gum and giggling at whatever is on the computer screen. While I'd like to pull an oldstyle librarian trick, what can I say? Please stop chewing your gum like a cow chews cud? I don't think so...(mean, I know)
SO what is your biggest pet peeves?
