Hi ladies – I would love your help! I am looking for some bars for our group to go to. We are mid-30s, mostly married, and we live in NYC. I have been out of the bar scene for a while now so would love some suggestions on bars we could go to – with a fun scene, good drinks, not cheesy but also not uber-trendy (would love to avoid velvet ropes and $20 drinks/table service). I am not looking for a “bachelorette” type of place either, just a place you would love to have a fun night out with your girlfriends!
Suggestions? We will be heading out around 11 (following dinner)

How many of you are there? Maybe you could make reservations at a speakeasy type place?
One of my friends had her bachelorette at The Back Room – it was really cool. Good drinks, not super expensive (though it is a service bar) and really cool decor. The staff was really nice there.
Here’s a yelp link, since they don’t have a website: http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-back-room-new-york
OR make reservations at a private karaoke room in K-town! Drinks are pretty cheap, and I think 2 hours for a room is about $70-75 total. It’s a lot of fun because it’s basically just you and your friends singing all of the silly girl songs you want to sing to your heart’s content!

My first thought was speakeasy type bars too! I like The Bourgeois Pig, Black Market, and Please Don’t Tell. The reservation system for PDT is a bit of a pain, but if you can get through, it’s great!

What about Bubble Lounge or Flute? Also, this one isn’t a “bar scene” place and the drinks are a bit expensive, but for a girls night out, I love getting a few friends and heading to the Lobby Lounge at the Four Seasons for a couple martinis.

Where are you going to dinner? I can maybe think of something in the neighborhood. I do second karaoke though, so fun, and usually much cheaper! I like divey places, and the East Village can be great and not too expensive.

Thanks ladies! These are great. There are 10 of us. We are going to go to a burlesque show at Duane Park (with dinner) to start. It is in Tribeca. I think it will let out around 11:30 or so….so then on to drinks somewhere fun! I love these suggestions – and any others 🙂

I LOVE Cienfuegos… fun drinks and great decor!

@Beckster329: Love Cienfuegos! Such yummy drinks.
A place that’s really great is Silver Lining in Tribeca. They have the great cocktails of the speakeasys but is large enough to accomodate a large crowd. Beauty and Essex is very popular right now, and they give you bubbly in the girl’s bathroom lounge!
