Hi NYC bees- Our officiant is my FI’s aunt, and of course she won’t accept any money from us. She lives in CT, close enough to drive into the city for dinner, so we want to treat her and her husband to a fancy dinner.
If you were going to give someone a restaurant gift certificate for $300, where would you go?

vermonster: Blue Ribbon Brasserie is a classic pick but they dont take reservations which might annoy people driving in
My other favorite restaurants for when…. other people are paying (lol) are : BLT Fish, Strip House, Market Table, Gramercy Tavern is classic, Per Se and La Bernadin are NICE nice.

Thanks for the suggestions! I should clarify that I would like it to be priced so that they could have a meal + wine and not have to pay much, if any, extra.

vermonster: I don’t want to be a Debbie Downer, but is there somewhere closer to home you can get a gift cert for? I only say that b/c from living in the metro area, I know it’s a chore in and of itself just to GET in the city and costs anywhere between $30 – $100 depending on the parking situation. I think it’s a great idea, I just know traveling to NYC can be a real pain in the ass sometimes. It’d be a shame if they don’t use it.

vermonster: Hmm I don’t think $300 would cover Eleven Madison Park then. You could try Jean- Georges (not Nougatine) – http://www.jean-georgesrestaurant.com/jean-georges/. We did the prix fixe menu, which includes some of the items on their most expensive menu set anyway. $118/person, plus wine, tax and tip…it should keep the bill closer to $300 than $400.
MrsBuesleBee: I actually haven’t been there yet but it’s on my list! As is Per Se and French Laundry (umm in the very far off future).

vermonster: I think you have some good suggestions, but I would definitely add Colicchio & Sons to the list. Two people should be able to eat there with a bottle of wine for around $300.
Another great option is Maialino for a fancy Italian joint.
I second MrsBuesleBee’s suggestions as well.

BR Guests has a number of nice restaurants, including Blue water grill, Strip House, Dos Caminos, and would give her a few options! http://www.brguesthospitality.com/

It depends on your aunt but I might second something closer to home being easier to use
is there a particular type o food she likes because if she is more meat and potato or went to france for her honeymoon and would love a romantic french place (or something like that)?

I’m not too worried about the whole getting into the city problem, because they go there a lot. I checked her Facebook (she kind of uses facebook as a combination of twitter and 4square, so her whole life is recorded on it) and she’s checked in at places in the city 68 times already this year!
