I don't know who you've contacted - but I would highly suggest going under the table with a stylist at a salon. Even if you pick a place like Bumble & Bumble (which is expensive) - you can probably find one of the trainees (who are totally competent - B&B has a loooong training program) who will do the job on the side. But if you just pick up the phone and call the salon, you'll get salon prices. Better to approach them quietly about it.
Try Blow on 14th street...I had a co-worker go there for her wedding in October and used it for hair/make-up for her and her wedding party and it was less than if she hired someone...not sure how much less though..
this is who i'm using:
www.beautifulbridesbylauren.com
and she will come to you on the wedding day!

Hello ladies,
I am having some difficulties finding a hair stylist for my wedding that I can afford. My sister is a stylist in Albany, and she was going to take care of it, but after much consideration we've decided she is going to be busy enough being MOH that day, and deserves a little pampering herself. But my budget is not huge, and everyone I've contacted thus far is very expensive.
I think 100-150 is reasonable for the bride, and 50-75 for my maids. Any ideas out there? Thanks!!
