Hope I didn’t miss a NWR travel board. I am visiting NYC in December.. I’ll be there Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.. I fly out on Wednesday morning. On Saturday night I’m staying at a hotel literally right next to the WTC and then Sunday-Tuesday night I am staying at hotel right off Broadway, a few blocks from Times Square.
Any ideas, suggestions on what to do? It’s my first time in NYC and I looooove Christmas so I’m thrilled.
While I’m in the Financial District:
Statue of Liberty Ferry from Battery Park (does it run that time of year? Can I just ride the ferry and not get off? Not really interested in exploring the SOL, just want to see it up close)
For the other 3 nights:
Maybe the Christmas Spectacular (why not?)
The Big Christmas Tree (but would probably skip ice skating there)
Looking at all the window displays
Thoughts on what to do, where to eat… what to skip???

If you just want to get close to the statue on a ferry, save your money and ride the Staten Island ferry, which is free.

If you take the Statue of Liberty / Ellis Island ferry, make sure you book online in advance. Otherwise you will be stuck in a hideous ticket line.

Thanks. Any other ideas? Anyone?

Christmas time in NYC is absolutely the best!! It’ll be quite windy so make sure your neck and feet as warm so that you can keep exploring.
Definitely walk up 5th Ave and see the window displays and end in central park. The park in the winter is really nice. I enjoyed a stroll there myself last january.
There are SO MANY restaurants that there’s really no point giving you recommendations. I dont know where you’re from and if you’re familiar with Yelp.com but use that site. It will give you all the food information you need. If you like oysters, a fun think to do is go to Mermaid Inn on 2nd Ave and 5th St before 7PM on a week day and get $1 oysters during their happy hour. They have good drinks too. If you like pastrami then the experience at Katz’s is worth the wait. Those sandwiches are amazinggggg.
My favorite chocolate chip cookie is at Birdbath Bakery. There are a couple of locations, look it up.
Basically, organize a food tour for yourself. I have yet to eat better food anywhere!!

I love yelp.com and have been looking up places to eat… I am going to make a giant list of approved places so we have several options to chose from everyday. I <3 food!!
