IDK of any nice restaurants, but you gotta go to Lombardi's for pizza!! It was the first pizzaria in the USA. The pizza AND caesar salads are so so good! *drool*
I had dinner at Maialino recently and it was delicious.
I haven't been to Maialino but hear so much good stuff htat I definitely second that!
My fave NYC spot closed (Convivio) but its chef/owners have a few other options- alto, Marea, etc. I also love Lupa, on Thompson St., which is a little more casual.
My FI likes Keen's steakhouse, guy friends like Momofuko.
And if you want good pizza, Lombardi's is great, and John's on Bleecker street is REALLY phenomenal. My fave pizza ever, plus it's in such an awesome neighborhood.
Enjoy! NYC is a great city for food!
Places I love:
Stanton Social
Beauty & Essex
Locanda Verde
Nobu
Wolfgangs Steakhouse
Thanks for all the suggestions!!!! I'm so excited. We basically want to spend all of our spending money on food :)
Beauty and Essex is AMAZING!!! Everything is so good there and the place is really cool. Another romantic suggestion would be The River Cafe. It's in Brooklyn right by the river. Food was good and when we went it was a set price of $95 for 3 courses. The food is not as good as Beauty and Essex but the place is very pretty and romantic.
My other favorites are
Joe Shanghai for Soup Dumplings.
Shake Shack - they have this amazing mushrrom cheese burger
BLT Burger- burgers was ok but they have this AMAZING Rocky Road milkshake
So many good places to eat in NYC! Good luck choosing.
@Shoppingdixie: I concur on Joes Shanghai but ONLY the one in chinatown. The terrible service is part of its charm
I second One if By Land, Two if by Sea. Super romantic (restaurant with the highest number of proposals in NYC), the food and service is AMAZING! Plus, it was Aaron Burr's old carriage house. Highly recommended.
Porter House in the Time Warner Center. It's super nice, and I don't even eat steak!
ETA: Check out savored.com. If you book through that website, you get a 30% discount on your whole meal at participating restaurants.
Wow! So many great suggestions. I knew I could count on you :)
I second Savored - you spend $10 and you save 30% - you can't beat that! Also, I have no doubt that you will be able to spend all your money on food!
If you have time for something fun, go to Ninja.
It's an underground asian restaurant-- a little pricey but they have prix-fixed menus and you eat in little huts. Find a video online and check it out-- I've been to NYC tons of times and it is one of the coolest places I've been to, hands down.
Alta is a yummy tapas place in the west village that I love! Barbounia is a great brunch place with unlimited mimosas on the weekends during brunch.
Like the other posters said, NY has such amazing, amazing food (definitely one of the reasons I love it here!). Artichoke's (there are 3 locations) and Lil Frankie's in the East Village are great for pizza. Westville in West Village has a ridiculous vegetarian burger (and I like my meat). And I have to plug Brooklyn--if you're willing to come, Convivium Osteria in Park Slope for a nice dinner is AMAZING. Seriously!
Also, if you REALLY want an authentic Chinese food experience, skip Manhattan's Chinatown, and make the trip out to Flushing in Queens--it's worth it.
You have some excellent recommendations already, but I'm going to add one more:
Apiary in the East Village. Delicious food, beautiful execution and presentation. Plus, if you go on a Monday, you can bring your own bottle of wine with no corkage fee. I really like the space because it looks borderline fancy, but it isn't at all pretentious.
We went last night for dinner for NYC Restaurant Week and it was amazing.
Okay, my father is in the wine business and works in LI and NYC so we have been to many places, not to mention my mother has exquisite taste and we have followed in her footsteps ;) hehe. Are you adventurous eaters? My parents LOVE The River Cafe - but it is in Brooklyn. My parents will only travel for food... and they said it is phenomenal. They said they spent $300 for two people. Here is the website so you can peruse.
http://www.rivercafe.com/
My personal recommendation is Casa Mono... Yummm!!! It is a tapas place, but it is super tiny with only about 12 tables and they do not take reservations, so if you are going for a few days I would recommend going early. It is so good, you really will not regret it. Here is the website:
I really hope you decide to go to one of these places!!!! :)
FI and I just went to Ninja NYC. It was awesome! The food rocked, the ambiance was awesome and we were there for 3 HOURS and didn't even realize it. We like Salute but the food portions were small. The Brick House was great indian food but we felt rushed. If you go to Chinatown I loveee doo-whop. Ive never ate anywhere bad in little italy. Our usual lunch spot is the Hardrock as I love their lettuce wraps. Nobu is nice but I would write home about it. Planet Hollywood is nice but the food is average. We had some kick ass food at Virgils, its a BBQ place but we waited for about an hour and the seating was right on top of each other. Most places in Time Square/Broadway (from 36-50th and 6-8th) are going to have a wait if you dont make a reservation.
SO and I just went into the city for Christmas festivities...Check out St. Andrews scottish restaurant! I was apprehensive when I heard scottish, since I didn't know what kind of food it entails. I was SO pleasantly surprised! They have a pri fixe special for $32.00 that includes a salad or soup, entree, and dessert. Also, it's abundantly clear that EVERYTHING is home made...from the bread they pass out to the sorbet. Delish! Have a great time!
Park Avenue is one of my favorite restaurants. When you are there it will be Park Avenue Spring. They change the decor and menu every season. Definitely in your price range and so so good.
@JenniferMm: I second Park Avenue!
Another to add: In Vino in the East Village is unbelievable. Small, cozy, romantic, modern Italian food/wine bar, and would absolutely fall in your budget.
I have to say, NYC is expensive in a lot of areas, but food doesn't have to be. There are unbelievable restaurants with entrees around $12-20. Also, Mercadito in the East Village for mexican.
Here are some of my favorites that are a bit on the fancy side:
-vaI (or vai sputino-- owned by same guy, food is similar)
-collichio and sons (or craftbar-- both are Tom collichio and awesome)
-annisa
-dovetail
-cafe frida
-Po
-scarpetta
Is cafe des artistes still open? I went once years ago and still think about it.
ohhhhh yummmm NYC has so many options to explore. I'm constantly exploring with fiance which is why we're having such a hard time losing weight. on the one hand it's good we're not getting married for 3 years. on the other hand, my mother is pressuring us to take wedding photos this summer in taiwan.
I second Artichoke Pizza! Alta is great, and yes, definitely go to Flushing for Chinese food, but Chinatown for dim sum (there's more places in Chinatown for dim sum).
Part of the experience in NYC though is all the great non-expensive options!
Yuca Bar, East Village on Tuesdays for happy hour. They've got half off tapas, and the plantanos rellenos is really good! I don't eat pork, but I happily steal the roasted plaintain from under fiance's nose ^^ And the drinks are really good! The mojito comes with a slice of sugar cane and plenty of fresh mint, and the passionfruit margarita tastes like real passionfruit juice!
Otafuku (shhh I'm giving this secret away! my bff will be so mad I posted this on the web) It's a really great small Japanese stand in St. Marks (where you'll find lots of Japanese food).
Pomme Frite - the Belgian fry stand
Caracas Arepa Bar - delicious arepas made by venezuelan sisters
The Smith
Ayza (wine and chocolate bar), reserve a table for Sunday night -couples night, use their code to get free chocolate!
Cafe Tasia - Thai food
If you are a meat lover:
Minetta Tavern, Delmonico's
French cuisine: Jojo (or anything by Jean Georges), La Bonne Soupe (a family friend of mine works there, and I'm not biased .... but I love this place. It's not a fancy restaurant, but the food is so good!)
Most of all DO NOT FORGET TO CHECK INTO YELP! You can get 15% off your bill ^ ^
http://www.yelp.com/biz/53rd-and-6th-halal-cart-new-york
the above places are all friggen amazing! people wait in line for a lot of these places and their "Famous" delicacies!

Hey ladies! We originally planned to go to NYC on our honeymoon but went with a sunny destination instead. Now we're planning our NYC trip for our 1st anniversary in May.
We want to go for a nice dinner one night. We don't want to spend more than $300. Even less wOuld be awesome, haha. Does anyone have some suggestions? We like pretty much all types of food except I don't like any kind of seafood.
Let's hear some recommendations!!!!! :)
