So I was wondering if anyone here is planning a NYC (or any city, really) themed wedding? If so I would love to know what details you guys are incorporating to depict that theme (place card holders, etc.) Thanks!

Oooh I actually thought about this but wasn’t really sure how to go about it. I’m interested in seeing some replies.
I only had one idea, and that was naming tables according to specific areas in the city (ie: Little Italy, Staten Island, The Bronx, etc….)

I am still considering this (San Francisco). Here were some of my ideas:
– Engagement shoot highlighting SF’s landmarks and turning that into a guestbook. See Miss Seashell’s Chicago e-pic session for inspiration.
– Including a local attractions section on the wedding website
– Using some kind of SF motif on the invites
– Naming the tables after SF landmarks
– Local favors (ie Ghiradelli chocolate)
– Playing a couple of SF themed songs at the reception (likely background music during the meal, not sure anything is really danceable otherwise)
The reason I am not sure about this is that 85% of our guests are local, so SF isn’t very novel to them and I might want to do something that reflects more of our hobbies/interests or heritage.

You could always design a personalized Broadway Playbill as your ceremony program and make sure they serve Manhattans at your reception! 🙂

I’m having somewhat of an nyc theme I guess….
Placecards have small black and white pictures of places around the city we took pictures of..each table is going to be a different place..Little Italy, Gramercy..etc.
Engagement pics we took in Brooklyn so the city was the back drop….going to use a picture of this for the wine labels and for the CD cover we are putting together
We are having 2 flatscreens that will rotate different arial views of nyc throughout the reception
I designed invites with the nyc skyline..
Oh..and we are coming out to the Jay Z song..empire state of mind

Just don’t make it tacky. This could be really glam and cute or really bad. Maybe some jazz standards or showtunes, big lights, etc. I feel like this would be a great theme if you have the money to pull it off. If you’re looking for a budget wedding with just a few guests, I don’t think it’s going to be as fabulous. Are you getting married in a church? Because that juxtaposition seems odd to me…
Best of luck!

Check out Mrs. Star. She had minor details that were NYC and it looked great.

are you guys yankees or mets fans? we are HUGE yankee fans. we are naming our tables after retired yankees and our closing song will be sinatra’s NY,NY like yankee stadium.
my coworker just incorporated a lot of NYC into her manhattan wedding. I was not there but she used lots of images of taxis, the brooklyn bridge, and the empire state building with king kong (i know that sounds all over the place but shes a designer and her invites/paper stuff looked fantastic). she originally wanted to buy a bunch of mini taxis at a souvenir shop for her place cards but it got too pricey.
you can always use apples as the place card holders… or play off the subway signs for you invite designs. i also love the idea of hot pretzels or some kind of nut stand…

We did the engagement shoot in NY, had an etsy seller that does hand drawn sketches, do our table names with the correlating picture, ordered buttons made from NY City subway maps and oragami flowers with the same. We’re having Jr’s cheesecake served for dessert…
