I just did a quick search on kayak.com and found a lot of hotels for under $100 a night for this weekend.
There are a lot of Holiday Inn Express-es in the city. Not the swankiest of places, but at least you know what you are getting and they are consistent.

my parents and aunt/uncle are going to nyc this weekend. they were going to stay with a family member, but just lost their housing last minute.
