I would like to find a modern, sunny space in Manhattan / Brooklyn for 100-120 ppl in the summer / fall. Preferably with a good view, and a decent backup in case of rain. Would like a space which will let me bring in partial / full outside catering because we need ethnic options for family. Would also like something with multiple small places rather than one big place, so different groups can hang out. Will have a ‘strolling reception’/ tapas style with food stations rather than a sit down.
Here are the places i have seen so far :
Loft 450 (not bad, but the slightest bit rundown)
Glasshouses (kind of small)
Gramercy Park rooftop (weird layout — long and narrow)
Hotel on Rivington (pricey, but the top contender)
620 Loft (pricey ; garden is beautiful but indoors is just ok)
Hudson Hotel (pix of the tent on the terrace don’t look great)
Peninsula (way too pricey, and no good rain option)
Anything else you would recommend? Would be really helpful — this is way more stressful than it should be!!!! 🙂

The Wythe Hotel? Brooklyn Winery? The Bowery Hotel?

second the Brooklyn Winery.
Also The Foundry! i’m having my wedding there and it’s actually perfect for you if you want tapas style since the space is so irregular. There is a downstairs main space, an upstairs “loft” area that looks down to the downstairs, various nooks, and an adjacent greenhouse space as well as outdoor courtyard and terrace. The fact that it’s a lot of small spaces actually worry me a little because I want people to mingle and not just cluster in groups of people they already know 😛 But I’m sure it’ll work out!

Here are some more spaces in Manhattan/Brooklyn (and maybe some in LIC), I think these all let you bring in your own food:
Ramscale – looks really lovely, was too small for my party but may work for you
Green Building (not what I’d call modern & sunny, but a really lovely space)
Metropolitan Building (also not modern/sunny, but cool)
Smack Mellon (may be too small?)
Bath House Studios
Pratt House – I’m not sure if they let you bring in your own food, or if they provide the catering. But they have multiple rooms, which seems to be what you’re looking for.
Also, a friend got married at Norwood – I’m not sure if you need to be a member, but that could be an option.

I would also recommend Attic Studios in Long Island City, Queens
Ici in Fort Green, Brooklyn, though I’m not sure it could accommodate 120. We looked into it when our guest list was about that much, and it seemed a bit on the small side, but it might be able to hold 100 comfortably for a cocktail style dinner.

Maybe Central Park Boathouse? I’m not sure they allow outside catering though!
Or Midtown Loft? A little rundown but pretty cool! http://www.midtownloft.net/wedding-space.html

One more question — on the Brooklyn suggestions, do you think it’s possible to do 100ppl under 20k? The venues I am thinking about are :

Assuming your 20K only includes food, booze, site fee and service, here are my thought:
Mymoon – yes
Rebar – yes, but you will struggle for availability
Brooklyn Winery- no
