Thanks Mrs. Canary! Very helpful post. I am going to call Pier Sixty now.
Oddly, the Capitale hasn't even returned my phone call yet (called this past Tuesday). I have to say I am weary of giving any place that much money if they are not interested in my business.
We are looking at a couple of places in norther NJ too so if we don't find what we are looking for by then I might just give the Capitale another shot. We'll see...
we looked at the ritz battery park. we loved it but fell more in love with another venue. i think the biggest thing for us was that we wanted to get married in a place with windows. the wedding coordinator/sales person we spoke to was very helpful and there was a bit of give in the price negotiations.
hi habibi - we are getting married at the lighthouse. (which has lots of windows!!) and by the way, they've been awesome so far. good luck in your search.
Hello Habibi. We almost booked capitale, but in the end went with a more traditional hotel option since I have a lot of out of town guests coming in. Speak with larry at capitale he is great. It is def. one of the more reasonable venues I looked at. My only problem with it was the location (china town--not very luxurious), but once you get inside it is really impressive. I am currently working with the Pierre on my wedding. They have also been great.
This might not be relevant but I went to a New Year's party at Guastavino's a while back and it was a disaster. So bad given that we paid so much to be there. Service was a nightmare so make sure you find people who got married here and had a good exprience before you book!!
i just got married at capitale this past april. started out dealing with this horribly irresponsible and inconsistent guy who then got fired and after that was very pleased with the service level. wedding day went off without a hitch, all the guests were very impressed with the venue and with the food and drinks. ritz and guastavino's are more expensive so we didnt look at those. the w on lex is cheaper and we visited and were happy with the price, but the venue seemed less impressive than capitale. you might look into chelsea piers, brooklyn or bronx botanical garden, the rainbow room, cipriani's, and gotham. i'd be happy to discuss the prices of each venue with you if you want to send me a msg. good luck!
oh yes we LOVED the bronx botanical gardens. beautiful outdoor ceremony space, great room for the party and its Abigail Kirsch so food is great. didn't book due to 200 person min - we had 150 attend. I think it was $195 or so pp in peak times - summer/fall saturdays....
Thanks ghkim9, I messaged you. I agree about the W, we were not impressed with the room at all so we took it off the list.
Janna19, Bronx Botanical Gardens is wonderful but I'm really trying to stay more centrally located - ie. guests can walk back to their hotel. If we were to go there, I might as well go with something in Northern NJ (where we're actually from) for less money.
I have to say I've only been engaged for a few weeks and so far the venue hunt is my least favorite part.
Thanks everyone, any more suggestions are welcome!
We looked at the Ritz too but booked Battery Gardens like the other bride. Their food is fantastic and floor to ceiling windows!!! Can not recommend enough!
As for the Ritz, all our OOT guests stayed as well as ourselves for the wedding night and we hosted a day-after brunch there. I have to admit the rooms are gorgeous but the service is seriously lacking.
For the brunch, we had to email/call the venue for 2 weeks to get them to send us the contract and they originally showed us one space, which we wanted to book, but 2 weeks later, they told us it was booked already, which the manager knew at the time she showed us. We had to settle for another smaller space.
There are lots of other little things, like I checked with concierge if we could drop off Welcome Bags and if there was a fee. They said of course and there was no charge. Two days before the wedding, we drop everything off and they charge us $1.50 per bag. Not a huge cost, but the principle is that we asked first and was told one thing and then they did another.
Both my fiance and I were really glad we had our wedding at Battery Gardens and not at the Ritz Carlton instead.
Hi Bees,
Has anyone held their wedding at or been to one at the following venues as a wedding guest?
W New York (on Lexington)
Ritz Carlton, Battery Park
Capitale
Guastgavino's
If so, please share your experience!
We're in the just looking stage so any other recommendations would be appreciated. We need a room that will hold at minimum of 240 people.
Also, if anyone wouldn't mind discussing price negations with any of these venues please PM me.
Thanks in advance!
(I'm posting this to the Beehive just in case there are any long distance brides/guests out there)

Good luck! This is definitely the hardest part.
