    Hi Ladies,

I have been a lurker for a few months- when I started getting an inkling that I might be getting engaged soon.  A little bit about us- I'm an actress and I've lived here in NYC for 8 years, and he is also an actor.  We met while performing together in a Broadway show, 3 years ago.  We were friends first, for about 8 months, and then we started dating.  We've been together just over two years, and he popped the question on our 2nd anniversary date.  We got engaged this Monday (7/13/09) and we just want to have a small family and close friends wedding here in NYC.  Our first date was in Central Park, and our anniversary date was in the park as well. He proposed in Columbus Circle.  Anyway, we want to get married in the park- just our immediate family and a few close friends (about 30 people including us).  The Conservatory Gardens would be ideal, as that is where our first date was.  But I'm worried about weather- we can't get rained out!  And also we want to get married this October (no I'm not knocked up ;-) so I'm worried that it may be a little cold.  Does anyone know of Central Park locations that would be do-able in the rain?  Other than in an actual restaurant.  Or if not, another NYC location that would house 30 people and not be ridiculously expensive?  Sorry this is so long, but any help would be appreciated!

First of all - CONGRATS! Another NYC actress bride, how fun!

I don't know specifically where they'll allow you to hold your ceremony under cover, but there's a section of the CP website that talks about weddings and they have designated CP wedding planners who might be able to help you, especially given your short time frame. The link is here:

Good luck and definitely keep a fellow actress-bride posted! :)

P.S. My initial thought was Belvedere castle, but you'd have to ask if they let people hold ceremonies there. Wouldn't that be fantastic, though?

    the park sounds beautiful!

how about still have it in the park but have a back up plan like a tent in case it rains: I applied for a permit for photography in the conservancy at the park  I vaguely remember seeing something about a tent

how about one of your theaters-you probably have connections

    how about the brooklyn gardens

    bryant park

    battery park

    an art gallery

    a winery in long island

if it weren't for the fact that I'm Catholic and have to get married in church I would have done the park

Yes, a theater is definitely an option. Hence, ours! :)

Bryant Park doesn't have any cover, so that won't help, although we had our engagement party there! It was gorgeous, but the threat of rain had me seriously stressed.

You could always do a cute city hall ceremony and then splurge on an amazing dinner for 30 somewhere, that would be fun!

I've always loved this venue - it's not in the park but it seems very special, like having the reception in a townhouse.

wow ladies!  Thank you so much for the quick replies.  I have checked on the tent situation, and it says that tents are not allowed- they don't even allow chairs.  But it does say to "develop a disaster plan in case of bad weather"  I guess that's code for Don't Blame Us if it Rains!  I think I may have to look for an indoor venue after all.  The library hotel is Gorgeous!  Thank you so much for the link, I will be sure to look into it.  And Belvedere Castle is another ingenious idea!  I'm so glad to be out of lurkdom and planning for real!  Oh, and I'm wondering if it's okay, when calling about indoor venues if I don't mention that it's a wedding.  Do you think they'd have a problem if they think it's a party, and then I show up in a white dress with a minister and a groom?? I'm just trying to avoid the wedding "overcharge"...

I would probably call and say it's for a party and see the charges, then call back and say it's for a wedding.  If there is an upcharge, I would definitely ask why there is an upcharge to see if you can get around it.

just an update-- there is a pavillion right outside of Belvedere castle that is usable- they don't let you get married In the castle but the pavillion is perfect!  It looks to be about 15feet by 30 feet.  Perfect!  And all you need is a 25$ permit!

If you don't mind Brooklyn, Prospect Park has a great boathouse space.

I just joined to I could tell you about the great NYC location I found for my wedding- my fiance and I are getting married in the Empire State Building on the 55th floor.

There's a company called Ultimate USA Weddings (I know, sounds fishy, but my Mom and I actually flew to NYC and checked them out before we booked anything and they are both legit AND extremely nice and helpful.)

They have a beautiful suite in the Empire State Building that holds up to 40 people, but they also do ceremonies in Central Park, or any other location that you want.

Also, they are one of the cheapest vendors I've seen anywhere (I live in Ohio and it was cheaper to do it in NYC than right here at home, depending on which venue we wanted)

I'm getting married in October (so the 10th is probably not a date that they have available, sorry about that one) and using them.  So far, they've been great, and so, so helpful.

Drop me a message if you'd like thier e-mail address, I'd be more than happy to give it to you!

just wanted to let you all know that I am going to get married in Belvedere Plaza- it's the area right outside of Belvedere Castle- thanks Miss Star!  They don't let people get married IN the Castle, but right outside of it there is an area with a little covering- it's Perfect.  We just got our permit- it was only $25!  I'm really excited, and I must thank all of you for your input- especially Miss Star!!
