All right Bees! You ladies helped me become familiar with wedding photography styles and the *good* stuff. I love the photojournalistic and artistic style.
Here's another cry for help! I'm a bride on a serious budget. I'm not looking to spend no more than $3000 on wedding photography, and $4000 is a complete stretch.
Are there any great photogs out there who are in NYC and in this price range and are willing to come for a Thursday wedding? Or is this a complete fantasy?
Any first hand experiences/reviews would be great!!
we're using Yun Gen Yang, we're taking out engagement pictures on Sunday so no first hand experience yet. I stalk his blog and fell in love his prices are very reasonable and he is super nice! www.yangphoto.com
I second Yun Gen Yang! We took our engagement pictures with him in May and loved loved LOVED how our pictures came out! He's a young, talented, and very cool guy. And his prices are very reasonable. Unfortunately, he was already booked on our wedding date when we learned of him, so we're using another photographer for our wedding.
Kella MacPhee! She's a NJ shore area person, but she's shooting our wedding in north Jersey (literally a few minutes from the NY border) and I'm sure she'd go into NYC. She's super fun, very affordable, and a great photojournalist photog. I'm sure she would have no trouble with a Thursday. Definitely check her out!
I can't recommend Erich Camping highly enough. He is actually based in Rochester, but travels anywhere in NY state for FREE. He shot our wedding this June and people cannot believe how amazing our photos turned out. He is also just the nicest person you could ever want to meet--my family was ready to adopt him on the spot!
A friend from the knot boards (carrieland) used an up and coming photographer last year -- Julia Newman (http://www.julianewman.com/). She was just staring out so she might be reasonable or willing to negotiate on a Thurs. night as the likelihood of having to turn other work away would be slim.
Also, Tony Yang might be an option. His package is now $3000. http://wedding.knsaber.com/intro.php. He took my b-pics and shoots weddings as well. Great guy and very talented. He shoot the stunning wedding of our own Mrs. Ant. His website says he only shoots Sat. weddings, but it NEVER hurts to ask!
Yun Geng Yang is definitely a good choice, and there are a few other recommended photographers on the ISPWP website that list their prices at or near your budget level.
The ISPWP site also lists photographers who travel to New York who may turn out to work better within your budget also.
this might be too late, but if you're still looking for a wonderful NYC photographer who is reasonably priced, defintiely check out Agaton Strom - agatonstrom.com . He did our wedding a few weeks ago and he does amazing work! His full day package was $3200 when we booked him last fall and included 11 hours of coverage. He is laid-back (but super professional), completely unobtrusive and really puts you at ease. He's so wonderful that he'll stick around for as long as the wedding is going (even if it's over 11 hours) and doesn't charge overtime....so you don't have to keep checking your watch worrying about going into overtime charges or anything. I can send you his package info (though it may have changed) if you want. Message me and I can send you his pictures and the slideshow he put together too (we could view the slideshow and photos online one week after the wedding). Good luck!
Check out www.tomwangphotography.com. One of my girl friends just used them for a wedding last week and she can not believe how great her pictures turned out and how much fun she had during her e-session and the big day. They were able to catch such intimate moments..and YES, there was a picture of the groom crying!PRICELESS! Good luck!

Love his work! Do you mind sharing what his pricing was? His website is down for maintenance so I couldn't check it out.
Thanks!
