This is definitely doable. Try contacting Yen at Real Food Catering - we got a really reasonable quote from them, around $150pp including rentals, staff, tax etc (not including alcohol, but including bar set up, bartenders, mixers, etc.) That's for a sit down dinner with a tableside choice of entree so I'm sure you get get a cheaper quote by opting for a buffet or heavy hors d'oeuvres/tapas reception.
Yen and Real Food get nothing but rave reviews online so I'm really happy with our choice.
You could also try Bon Soir catering, we got a good quote from them too and they offer a lot of different options.
Yen is amazing but Real Food books fast. Sadly they are working another wedding on our day.

Hi my fiancee in and I just got engaged a little bit over a month ago and a considering a couple of raw/loft like spaces, where we would have to bring everything. We want a "glorified cocktail reception" rather than a sit-down dinner, and want the food and wine to be amazing. However, we've been getting proposals from caterers and they are around $175-200 per person (including rentals, tax and gratuity). Our budget is more around $120pp for catering for approximately 60-75 guests. Does any one have any suggestions? Is this completely unrealistic?
