@BurlapnLace:  My FI’s work is like this. Luckily, he had today scheduled off. If he hadn’t, he would have had to drive 45 minutes to work at 6 am and 45 minutes back at 6 pm. It’s a business, so I kind of get it – but no one has been in all day long.

I, on the other hand, am a teacher so I am always canceled.

I’m in upstate NY and everything is fine but by Wed we are supposed to get 7-10″ I know my employer won’t close but I’ve already told my boss if it’s bad don’t expect me in on Wed.

Is the current storm in NYC/NJ area?

ETA: Nevermind I just watched an informative video on Weather Channel…wow it looks bad. It is literally just going to miss me.

My company still hasn’t closed yet either, but they are very flexible with working from home so that is what I decided to do this morning.  I bring my laptop home all of the time so the “no work” thing never really works out anyway.

I was initially all “aw come on, it’s just a bit of snow!” and then looked at the forecast. Five to eight inches?!?! THAT IS NUTS. I hope you get home safe and sound and warm!

@BurlapnLace:  my FI is stuck at work. His job almost never closes for poor weather.

I’m currently at work which is an hour drive from home on a normal day 🙁

My office never closes either. I should have called out haha.

My work never closes either.  Sometimes one of the managers will come around and tell people it’s ok to leave early if they think they might have trouble getting home, but no such offer today.  There were already about 2-4 inches when I left for work this morning and it’s still coming down like crazy!  I am dreading how backed up the subways are going to be.

@BurlapnLace:  My office NEVER closes for weather. We had 17 inches of snow a couple weeks ago and they expected everyone to go in. It’s ridiculous – I’m forced to use sick days if I’m not comfortable going in, even though my boss doesn’t even go in when it snows a lot and she has a big 4 wheel drive SUV! It’s ridiculous. I say just go when you feel like you need to go – I got in an accident in snow a year ago and although no one was seriously hurt, it is so not worth it. A job is not worth your life, though your employer may make you feel that way. I hate this whole “give you life to your employer” mindest in America! Sorry, had the same dilemma as you today and it really makes me angry. I just didn’t go in though, the roads are apparently very bad

@BurlapnLace:  I completely get you on the zombie apocolypse analogy as well – same for the company I work for. The only time they ever closed was when we lost power from Sandy and they have no other option

Ugh, DH has to drive 3 hours today, from upstate back to us in Manhattan! I’m so worried, hoping the highways aren’t too bad.

I’m a grad student, but my university wasn’t closed either. Yuck.
