the other thread had the two couples getting married within 2 weeks of each other…which wedding comes first is not an issue.

I dont think you have anything to worry about, especially if they set their date for 2012. If you guys want and are ready for 2011, go for it. a year between weddings is plenty of time for families to recoup.

You’re not a terrible person at all. Getting married before a family member or friend even if you got engaged after them isn’t the concern… It’s if the scheduling is so close to each other and if you play a role in their wedding and vice versa. Enjoy your engagement and wedding planning adventures…. You deserve it!

I don’t understand why you are concerned?  You got engaged first so shouldn’t you be getting married first too?

No, you’re okay.  I think if you deliberately set your date very close -and before their date that may be an issue.

@princessamy: nah, general rule of thumb around here is “you get one day, not one month, or one year”….but in the case of that other thread, 2 weeks is a bit ridic, ya know!?
