Oh I know! Every time I see it, it makes me so sad! Because I know it is an actual problem and they can't do anything about it with out help and even then... I could never live like that, or at least thats what I would like to think. Have you seen the animal hoarders? Even more sad =(
yes!! I was watching it last night actually and almost threw up. It is really sad.
I cant' watch this show cause it literally makes me sick. Hoarding rats? UGH
@cyndistar3: The lady last week with all of the animals and birds in filthy cages was unbelievable. I think my mouth was open in disbelief for most of that episode.
@UpstateCait: Me either...it's just so mind boggling.
Yea I can't watch it either. My FI worked on an ep of Oprah with a couple who were hoarders; they had so much stuff their bedroom was literally soundproof...like a tomb, because of all the STUFF they had. The episode had someone help them clean out their house, and they arranged it all in a warehouse [they ended up having a dollar sale to get rid of the sellable stuff]. Anyway, there was so much stuff it took up 2 whole rooms of the warehouse. It was crazy!
OMG...YES!! I'm watching it. It's FREAKIN' disgusting.
It's one of those things that you can't watch..but you can't look away either. I just don't understand how it gets that point from some clutter here & there to having trash/stuff EVERYWHERE and you can no longer walk around your house. I feel so bad for the family members, esp the kids, who put up with that and have to live in those conditions.
That would NEVER happen in my house. I get pissy whnn the FI leaves a empty soda can on the counter or coffee table. LOL!
I was actually talking to my dad about this the other day. I have it set to record on the DVR and I haven't seen the rat one yet but I have seen several where the people end up pooping in bags and filling up rooms with them. They say it just got to be too much, etc. How does it get to that point?!?
I stopped watching it after seeing an episode where a lady had been pooping on the floor because she couldn't get into her bathroom. It's sad, but my stomach can't handle it.
@Aubergold: yes ma'am. This one lady was staying at her mom's old house or something like that and began pooping on garbage bags and filled up the whole bathroom or something. Matt Paxton always get stuck in the nastiest situations.
@SweetRose2011: Oh gosh....my throat just got juicy....that's SO disgusting!
it IS a form of mental illness - and is, in fact, part of OCD. I have OCD (but a different type) - I've also known hoarders and it is so very sad the life they live...growing up - a woman who went to our church was a hoarder and her kids weren't EVER allowed to have anyone over. It was absolutely disgusting to go into her house (i think i went in there one time).
But - from what I've read - it's a lot about people who are just terrified of getting rid of anything - and, can actually make themselves physically ill with the thought of throwing anything out!
it's funny to me - my husband and I only ever argue about ONE thing. I believe HE'S OCD over the way he cleans because he's the complete opposite and is a clean-freak - he gets mad when I leave one dish in the sink...he's called me a "slob" before because I don't put my dishes in the dishwasher the second I'm done with them...yet - I watch that show and it's like "at least I'm not like that!
I had to stop watching the show because it puts me in such a bad mood. :( it saddens and disgusts me.
@JamaicaBride:I don't think I could handle watching animal hoarders. I can't handle people and stories like that.
I am going through a phase where I kind of can't stop watching Hoarders. I'm in the process of trying to de-clutter our apartment, purge our closets, etc, and I find it weirdly motivational. When I know I should be cleaning but would rather lay on the couch, I put it on, and after five minutes I'm like OMG IT'S A SLIPPERY SLOPE! Time to scrub everything I own!
I fell sorry for this guy with all of the rats who found his young wife deceased. I also feel sorry for the rats though! At least he seems to be doing what is best for them, unlike the other woman on this episode. It's crazy how they are completely destroying his home in order to find the rats though.
I am fascinated (yet feel really bad for all involved) with 'Hoarders'. However, I COULD not watch tonight's episode. Can.not. handle. rats.
@MademoiselleL: He is trying to do the right thing and you have to applaud that. The other lady was just something else.
I feel sorry for the man's house but if they didn't rip the walls, he would have had rats in their multiplying all over again =(
@MademoiselleL: ha that is crazy! they were literally knocking down the walls!
Also, I have not watched tonight's episode yet, but that lady from last week with the farm animals was UNREAL.
Oh my gosh, whenever I REALLY don't feel like cleaning and know I should, I turn on that show and within a minute, I get to work!
Cute story: I was watching the show at home over Christmas and my dad walked in and was like, "Don't like your mom see you watching that show; she'll make me go organize a closet or something." (my parents have an immaculate house)
@octopus: I think I yelled at the TV that whole episode. FI was like...babe calm down. When they showed the inside of her fridge and I saw all the eggs in there I was done. How many chickens, pheasants, geese, ducks....that aren't allowed in water mind you, and goats does one woman need?
I haven't seen the latest episodes, but I watched a bunch in a row on Netflix last time I was home sick, and wound up throwing away a ton of old stuff and donating 2 big bags of stuff to Goodwill.
I swear, it's scary to watch but it's definitely great to watch before moving; it'll make you think twice about what you keep!
It's like a trainwreck. No matter how disgusting the houses are, I can't take my eyes off the TV.
I can say that before I moved 2 yrs ago, I was so worried about all the junk I'd accumalated that I threw away/donated anything I hadn't used for at least 3 years. I'm so glad I did, I don't miss any of it!
@JamaicaBride: yeah the whole thing with them not being allowed in water was so stupid.
@JuneBride_26June2010: I did know that it was a mental illness but I did not realize that it is a form of OCD because I guess I always assumed that OCD meant being someone who has to have things in certain positions, may or must touch things several times over and over, etc.

If you have never watched this show on A&E, you should try to tune in for an episode. Every time I watch it I want to wash my house down in bleach. I understand that hoarding is a form of mental illness but the last couple of episodes have literally made me sick to my stomach.
This man has 5 billion rats just running rampant in his home. His back story is heartbreaking but man...rats chewing up the walls, mattresses, furniture?? Oh no no no.....I end up talking to the TV every time I watch it. I could never live like that.
Have any other bees watched Hoarders, and if so, thoughts?
