Our reception for 35 people is going to be at the Coconut Club at the Aston in Waikiki. It's on the rooftop overlooking the beach and water. We are having hawaiian bbq catered by Tiki's Grill. It's very affordable compared to other reception options we looked at! I know they allow music and cakes to be brought in, etc.
If we end up deciding on Oahu, then we'll rent a vacation house with a nice backyard and do everything there. We probably won't use vendors who come on site in that case, but I see that as a benefit.
Depending on your target location on the island and your budget, I would call the Outrigger Canoe Club and see if they fit your needs and are available. I saw them profiled on another wedding blog once, but you may have to be a member or a reciprocal member in order to reserve there. Other than that, pretty much all of the Waikiki hotels probably have space.

We are estimating 20 people for our destination wedding in Oahu. We would like to have a reception with the traditional first dance, cake, toast, etc. and would like it private. Does ANYONE have any suggestions on venues? We thought of Luau but that isn't private and we can't do our dance. Dinner cruises are nice but not for $180 a person. Please help! :)
