The hospital that one of my friends delviered her baby at gave her a really nice back pack type thing filled with coupons for formula and diapers and such.  Kind of a “Hey, we just charged you well over $8,000 for popping out a kid, here’s some coupons” kind of thing

If they are going to give you anything that would help you raise your baby or save you money, I would make sure someone is in charge of reminding you to ask for it. Maybe it will just be some formula or maybe it will be something more useful. Who knows? Why not ask? Plus, I’ve heard that by the time you leave, the stress has worn off. It’s not like the send you out minutes after popping the baby out of you.

ETA I’ve heard of some women getting really nice baby bags full of diapers and such.

It is most likely swag from diaper/formula companies. So a bag with samples of formula, baby bath products, stuff like that.

Free gifts always meant free formula, but around here they are giving it out less since they find that woman are more likely to stop breastfeeding if they have formula available to them especially if they are exhausted. Not debating, just what all the hospitals are now trying to say.

Hopefully you got something useful.

I think it varies from hospital to hospital. Maybe she meant free gift as in all the freebies new moms get, such as extra diapers, mesh undies, etc.? I also read on here that a Bee’s hospital gives away free Vera Bradley diaper bags, but I am pretty sure none of the hospital here do that.

There’s a hospital in my area that gives the parents a lasagna and salad when they leave the hospital.  Sadly I’m not delivering at that hospital!

It can’t hurt to ask!

At worst, it is a bunch of formula and diaper coupons.  But it might be something better like the food, bags, samples, etc others have mentioned!

On our hospital tour, the nurse mentioned that every baby gets a knitted stocking cap that is made by volunteers.  They were really cute!

@ms.melli:  Huh strange, but anything that might help would be cool. What hospital are you going too? if you don’t mind my asking.

@ms.melli:  I was born at a Catholic hospital, and my mother received a gold Virgin Mary charm in honor of me that I now have. 🙂

The hospital we used for all 3 kids fave us an Enfamil diaper bad, a lot of free diapers, coupons, free formula (several sample sizes, worked great for day-trips) and a bunch of other stuff.  I don’t recall having to ask for it, I think it was just standard.

We got big package of diapers, wipes and coupons for formula.  We also got couple of hats and mitts and quite a few other things.

It is usually a diaper bag with samples.I don’t believe you have to ask for them.
