I really dislike multicolor lights! I love the clear lights that are a warm tone!

Our pre-lit tree came with clear lights, which are my favorite, anyway, so that worked out nicely :)

The lighting designer in me: cool white.  You're poll: clear..  I only got the cool white instead of the warm white because they were cheap and suitable for outdoors (no tree, ours are on the balcony) and we wouldn't have had any otherwise, it was impulsive!

The pre-done tree we found in FI's new apartment closet came with multicolored lights.  It's nice at night to have it as kind of a night light. I'll miss it after New Year's!

My dad used to have this dissertation on christmas lights vs socioeconomic status in our area... big multicolored lights were lower income, small multicolored lights were lower middle, big clear/pale lights upper middle, small clear lights, upper class.

But I'm pretty sure he was just making shit up like he does, especially since my best friend had big chunky multicolored lights and I know her family made WAY more than mine haha.

Also... silly story, my grandmother (who my parents were living with to help take care of her, ungrateful and demanding as she was) was obsessed with getting Christmas juuuuust right every year, and one year demanded my dad go out and buy lights for the shrubbery outside the house (on his dime, no less.) He bought the cheapest thing available -- blue lights in a netting pattern (easy to throw over bushes, he thought.)

He goes to all the trouble of putting them up and plugging them in and my grandmother goes outside to see the result of his work... and proceeds to yell at him for screwing it up because blue is "a jew color." Whatever the hell that's supposed to mean. (Just one of my many, many bigoted-grandmother tales.)

@Bebealways:  I have to say, I have ALWAYS thought of the blue lights being "Jewish" and multicolored or white being more Christmassy. My brain has just always made that association. Hah.

My little pre-lit tree in my flat has white lights, and the big live tree I decorated at my parents' is multicolored. I prefer multi!

This year we have a mix of clear, red and green, but in general I prefer all-white on the tree (but colored outside.)

    @Blush.Champagne:  +1 :)

ETA: Oddly enough, growing up, and with my ex and my old roommate, we always had multi lights. Now that I have my own tree, I much prefer warm white ones.

White/clear only because FI hates multicolored lights. I love them, but it's one way I compromise :)

We have clear lights. They're my favorite! This year we managed to find some warm white LED lights. They're perfect. They don't look like white LED lights at all.

@bowsergirl: I honestly never made a connection. MOST people where I grew up were jewish, so it was even weirder that she was all freaked out about it despite living there for years. (She grew up a catholic in Texas though, so...)

:D I got to have the lights in the end and put them up in my bedroom! I just thought they were pretty...

I'm an apartment dweller so I have an awesome three foot tree.  I decided to just get one with the lights already on it and they're multicolored. The only ornaments on my tree are glitter balls and I'm not going to lie, it's fabulous looking!

I said multi b/c we have LED multi colored dome lights on the outside of our tree.  They produce little circles all over the ceiling and walls near the tree.  We also have clear LED lights inside the tree to give it depth.  So a combination of the two.

Our deck has multi LED and around the counter we have red/white/green LED that we bought out accident one year but I love the festiveness they provide.

Clear - my DH absolutely hates colored lights, calls them "trashy".  I don't think that, but the white lights do look pretty.

I call them white lights; voted clear for the poll.  I like a designed, coordinated look with the emphasis on white, cream and silver and my shades of red and green are burgundy wine and  dark forest.  This year I went for an elegant, rich look with the indoor Christmas decor and our tree.

multicolored! i made my husband's jaw drop a few weeks ago when i went on my christmas light rant. i'm so judgemental.

Blue lights and/or a blue color theme is horrible. That's not a Christmas color! unless you are celebrating a different holiday (i believe blue is a hannukah color?), they are wrong.

White/clear lights are stuck up. If I see a house or a tree that has only white lights, I immediately think the person has a giant stick up their butt.

After I told my husband this, he said "you ARE prejudiced... you just happen to be prejudiced in a topic that means nothing."

@rosworms:   Haha! That's funny!  I don't judge people by their holiday decor.  I'm sure you'd think I'm completely stuck up because all my lights are white, indoors and out.

All it means is I like white lights.

I actually like colored lights, too, and sometimes change from year to year, depending on my mood.  I don't think Christmas lights have anything to do with someone's personality at all.  :)

Edit:  Your tree is lovely, btw.

@Sunfire:  i know, i'm so horrible Embarassed LOL. it's such a stupid thing to get so worked up about. i'm one of those "if it's not what i grew up with, it's wrong" type of people when it comes to holidays.

i'm just glad that DH has no emotional attachment to any certain time of decorating, so i got to make the decisons.

@rosworms:  LOL!  :)  Hey, at least you're honest about it.

@givemecouture:  Your tree is gorgeous, that's very similar to what mine looks like, even the ribbon garland.  I wish I had a pic but I haven't taken one yet.

I usually spend a lot of time and effort into maintaining a very styled home, coordinated outfits, unique artwork....  and I could give 2 craps about our Christmas tree lol. I bought it all from Dollar General ( the horror!) and yes, it has 3 packs of mutilcored lights on it and glitter balls. It's so white trash, it's kind of cute.

We hope to be in a new house next year, so I will put more effort into it then.... maybe.

Found a pic: here's our Dollar General creation. I had to cut the top off because I didn't have anything on it when I took this picture, now we have an equally tacky red glitter star, from the dollar store of course lol.

Im an all white/clear light girl. I do love all red lights as well. Or a red & white mix like a candy cane. Laughing

Im definitely not a fan of multicolored lights.

My mini fake tree, my apt is too small! lol Love big real ones..

Although I prefer white or clear lights outside, and colored on the tree. I lost that argument though!

This year I bought some red, green, and white mini lights.  Otherwise I prefer white lights.  In the future (when I have more space) I think I would like to do a smaller secondary tree that I can put blue and red lights on (I've seen red white and blue lights) and do a jayhawk tree Wink

We have red, green and white lights. I like them because they look pink. My tree is decorated in pink! It's a grown up pink that matches my decor, not childish!

For some reason, I only like white lights. Multicolored lights look nice on other people's trees, but I will only use white.

FI and I were actually arguging about in Target last week because they only had colored lights and I wanted to go to another store to buy white ones. He wanted to buy whatever colors they had at Target. I won :)

We have a pre-lit tree that have white lights on them, but apparently that wasn't enough for DH, so we put two more strings of multi-colored.  She's a bright one!
