Does anyone know where they are going on their honeymoon? I want a luxury, beach trip but it seems to be hurricane season everywhere (I do not want to go to Hawaii)! Any suggestions??
I'm having a hard time finding a honeymoon location too! We wanted to do the Greek Isles but it appears that it's going to be cold in Oct. and ferries to the Isles will either be shut down or running on a very limited schedule. Now we're trying to come up with Plan B. It's not easy when you don't want to do an all-inclusive place or somewhere in the Carribean or anything that is specifically a beach location.
Good luck finding somewhere!
From TheKnot.com, here's a list of places that have good weather in October:
Australia, Bali, Belize, Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, Central & South Africa, Egypt, Fiji, French Polynesia, Hawaii, Italy, Madagascar, Maldives, Mauritius, Mexico, Morocco, Seychelles, Spain, USA
great list! we might do australia but the flights are LONG and expensive. europe is our other option.
I'm looking for a honeymoon spot in October as well :-) We are thinking of Curacao or Aruba. Though those islands are in the Caribbean, they are out of the hurricane belt and the chances of one hitting there are much less.
I sent most of the list above to my FI and told him to decide. I would looooove to do South Africa, but it's just so expensive!
My fiance and I are going to go on a tour of Italy for our honeymoon.
I hadn't even thought about hurricane season. I feel like I am so far behind in my planning. We were thinking Costa Rica or somewhere else in the Caribbean, I guess I need to start researching more.
We really want to go on a cruise, but seeing as it's hurrican season in the fall, we've decided to postpone our real honeymoon until the spring of 2011. We both have to put so much money into this wedding, and take off so much time from work, that we really can't afford a big honeymoon right away. We are going to take a three-four day break after the wedding and go somewhere more local, probably to Chicago.
we originally were thinking of hawaii but i have minimal time off next year so we had to nix that because I would def want to spend more than 10 days there with that travel time (which also took away europe or any pacific islands). We really just wanted someplace we could relax. I got nervous about a cruise or carribbean with hurricane season. We went to Riviera Maya last Jan and LOOOOOVED it so we considered just going to the same place or visiting another one of the resorts in that brand but we are ultimately going to go to Curacao. Hurricanes don't affect Aruba, Bonaire, or Curacaou and FI has been to Aruba so we decided to do something different. I cant wait!! Still have to book it though
Our plan is Bali! It has always been our dream destination and part of the reason why we were so excited about an October wedding!
You know, I think people get too scared about hurricane season... I've traveled in the Caribbean only once that WASN'T during hurricane season, and that was when we had the most rain! (And now I've jinxed it and there will be a hurricane next October...)
We're doing a 2 week honeymoon in California. Flying into San Diego and spending about 3 days, then a 2 day drive up the Pacific Coast highway to San Fran for a few of days and then out to Wine Country (Napa/Sonoma) for a week. It's the PERFECT time of year to go out there...and DEFINITELY no hurricanes! lol!
We are chancing it and going on a Caribbean cruise. My fiance has never been on a cruise and we didn't know when we would get another chance.
Here's hoping for the best :D
Yes I've heard Greece is really cold in October... that was a place that was on our list until we realised the cold weather would suck. Now we're thinking the Maldives and somewhere in Africa!
I live in Hong Kong, and the weather here is excellent in October if anyone is interested!
We are spending a week in Portugal followed by a week in Paris.
We're going to do Aruba if we can swing it financially. If we save up enough to go on a honeymoon for 2010, that's definitely where we'll be! Beautiful beaches, swanky resorts, good shopping, snorkeling, and all that fun stuff!
Although, the above-the-water resorts in Fiji and Tahiti look AMAZING! We might have to save a bit more $$ for that though!!
We are doing Brazil and Argentina--it will be spring in the southern hemisphere!
We are going on a Western Carribean Cruise. We leave October 23rd which is a couple weeks after the wedding so it gives us enough time to take a break between wedding madness and the Honeymoon! Our cruise will last 7 days and we are now trying to decide on our shore excursions!
@sarahd07, your California honeymoon is pretty much the California part of our honeymoon in the opposite order!
We're taking a full month -- I've already told my boss I'm not coming to work at all in October! -- and flying to NYC, a few days there, then onto San Francisco where we'll hire a car and drive round California for 10 days, ending up in LA. Then we fly out to Australia (Queensland) where all my family are, and we'll stay there for two weeks and have our second celebration there.
It's going to be expensive -- if we had to pay for accommodation in Australia we'd never be able to afford it! But totally worth it.
Well we were thinking St. Lucia, but now now the hurricane season has me slightly worried.
We're going to Fiji, specifically Taveuni Island. We're very excited! It's the second best coral reef area in the world, just behind the Great Barrier Reef. I can't wait!
We wanted to do Greece too, but nixed it due to weather. We're looking at Egypt now - a few days at a resort on the Red Sea and the rest of thr trip sightseeing!
Sandals Grande in St. Lucia, we booked & registered through AAA. There are no booking fees, your guests can put money towards your honeymoon with no fee. We also purchased travel insurance for 200 so we can change our date for any reason (ie a late hurricane)
Thanks for all of the ideas! For those of you looking at Aruba - my fiance and I got engaged there, it's beautiful and ultra relaxing.
We were thinking about Costa Rica, but apparently October is the heavy rain season so thats out...
For those of you looking at Bali or Fiji - if you don't mind, separate from airfare (we'll be using frequent flyer miles) - how much are you spending and for how long? We are looking to go for 10-14 days. Thanks!
My dream would be Fiji or Bali, and I love the idea of a place where we could stay over the water. Does anyone know is there a specific name for those hotels? I know they have places like that in Bermuda too. I'd like to search around to see what options there are but I'm not sure where to start!
We're going to Bora Bora!
I also think the Puerto Rico has very consistent beautiful weather all year round - check that out.
I was just coming here to ask the same thing! We only have 5 days
so that complicates things. Most of the places that have good weather are way too far to travel for that long. We're coming from the NY area so the Carribbean would be great but I'm worried about the weather too.
Would love to hear any ideas for a shorter trip destination.
Technically - we'll be leaving on Nov. 1 for our honeymoon.. so we're thinking Mexico with trip insurance :-)
We're considering a 12 day mediterranean cruise from barcelona to Turkey & Greece. Even if it's colder, it will be amazing to see all the cities where it stops.
We're sold on the idea, but now we just have to figure out if we can afford it.
My honey and I are planning our official honeymoon for next spring, to give our bank accounts time to recover a bit. That and I tried to entice family members to come to the wedding by trying to arrange a group cruise for the week following the wedding... so we'll be using a week for that lol. It isn't officially our honeymoon with family members around is it? Yuck >=P
;)
We're going to Fethiye, Turkey, at a resort off the Lycian Coast. According to their site, the average temperature around that area are:
Daytime avg 81°F
Night time avg 60°F
Water avg 74°F
We're leaving on Oct 12th and hoping it'll be perfect. The views are stunning and the place is known for it's food so all is good either way!

This is where we'll be staying: http://www.hillsidebeachclub.com/
I need some ideas too ladies! FI was thinking Greece and Italy and I'm worried since we wouldn't go be able to go until early Nov since the wedding is late oct. Now is trying to figure out how to do both greece and italy. I have no idea where to start. FI started to look at cruises but he says that they cram so much into a trip, we don't even get to stay in one place for a full day... ideas?
Napa, CA! We're taking the California Zephyr (a historic train route) from Denver to SLC, spending 2 days there, then taking the train on to Oakland, CA. Then 2 days in Berkeley for shabbat (Jewish sabbath, Friday night through Saturday), and then spending 4 days in Napa before flying back to Denver from San Francisco. 10 days total, 2 days, 1 night total on the train, and 8 days and 9 nights in nice hotels booked using points and miles. We're kinda on a budget and have only $2000 total to spend on food, entertainment and travel, and hotels aren't a huge priority to us, so business/conference hotels it will be. We're more into being where we are as a place, than sequestering ourselves in a resort.
We are going to fly to Florida, and stay in the Orlando area for a week, and then rent a car and go to Port Canaveral, and leave on a 7night cruise going to Nassau, Bahamas, St. Maarten, and St Thomas. I cannot waitt!! we were going to wait to go on a honeymoon as well, becaue with all the planning it costs sooo much money! But then my parents were able to help us out and book our honeymoon and we would just pay them back! which was veryy nicee! soo we leave Oct 16th, which gives us some time to unwind after the wedding and relax a little bit. I am taking just about the whole month of october off of work as well, from Oct8-31!
I really wanted to go to a tropical place but since we've wanted to go to Italy together since we started dating (9 yrs ago) we decided no better time than on our honeymoon. 4 days in Rome, then 4 days in romantic Venice. The weather is supposed to be a lil chilly (60s) but we are planning to have lots of wine and being lost in our love stares so we think it will work out well. LOL.
